Ectoskeleton

The cicadas are in full "bloom". We find these lovely empty shells everywhere and hear the living versions clicking thickly in the trees. My mother-in-law used to call them "dry flies" as they apparently sing more when it is hot with no chance of rain (and we get a lot of that this time of the year). They're a true sound of southern summer.
