The first few days of July, I always pray for rain. We've noticed folks in these parts get a little rabid about their fireworks. Not the city-sponsored shows done by professionals. I'm referring to the fantastic light displays set off by redneckians in their driveways and lawns. We always get a good show just by standing in our yard at nightfall or better yet, going upstairs to the loft to get a clear view over the tree line (living in a round house comes in handy as it affords a 360 degree view).
I'm always amazed/impressed/stupified by the amount of money these folks must spend on their artillery shells, black cats and other explosive devices designed to inspire bursts of color and lots of oohs and aahs. Unfortunately, if we've had a bad dry spell, I worry that they'll cause fires that'll burn across fields in minutes - hence the pleas for rain to dampen any possibility of stray sparks.
Still, I have to admit, since we've lived at Run*A*Round we haven't even considered going to see a 'citified' fireworks show...
P.S. Thanks, Alex, for the wonderful downpours we had here yesterday!
