Red-shouldered hawk

A red-shouldered hawk perched alongside the pond looking for prey. I surprised him later that day at the pond's edge (or he surprised me) and he flew off with a big fat frog in his talons.

These hawks eat a lot of reptiles (frogs, toads, lizards and snakes) but will occasionally take a songbird too.
