Dove season opens today in Texas. I've already heard a few gun shots early this morning (not your typical practice session timing on a weekday so I'd assume it's the real deal).
I'm hoping our little white dove is not too tame for his/her own good. I've gotten close enough to it on several occasions to touch its wing, tail, and breast, and it's nibbled on my fingertips. It even perched on my hand for a moment before hopping back off onto a low oak tree limb. So I have no doubt that it was hand-raised.
This, of course, does not lend to good defense tactics against human hunters. I'm hoping he/she will stick close to home for the next few weeks.
