Maximilian sunflowers


These are Maximilian Sunflowers.  They're popping up all over fields near the highway. 
I like the way they grow in long ropy stems.

Lovely flowers! We have similar looking flowers growing wild around here.

That is what they are called and they grow wild? I got some as a free gift for a catalog for buying something else. I planted them in my front flowerbed. Wow, do I feel sheepish. They look nice though in your picture.

They started popping up in our conservation acres just recently -- so pretty against the prairie grass.
