Counting down

Looks like this little downy woodpecker is counting down before he pursues his mates in a game of Hide and Seek, or maybe he's saying his prayers.  Actually, he's busy burying sunflower seeds in the crevices of the birdfeeder tree - just in case those pesky humans that live here forget to keep the feeders full this winter!

Very pretty woodpecker. We have Red-tail flickers.
I have never been able to get close enough to take a picture but I keep on trying. It could be that the dog always runs a head. You think?

I love the Downey woodpeckers--Maybe he's got a little cache going in case he needs to bribe one of 'the girls'-- we all like men bearing presents after all! :-)

I love seeing the woodpeckers around here...We don't see them often tho. Your post had me giggling :)

I love birds! Woodpeckers are one of my favorites! I didn't know they hide seeds in the trees.

Have a Great Day!

Cute rascal. Don't tell the other birdies about his secret hiding place, though ;-)

We get quite a few different woodpeckers at our feeders -- I think the Downey is one of my favorites. Great photos!

I've been having fun watching these all week from my treestands. There's a ton of them around here.
