More insect stalking

Arachnid, actually.  Fall is the season for Daddy Long Legs.  I've always been fascinated by these guys (and gals).  Reminds me of that silly come-on line, "Do those legs go all the way up?"

Up close and personal, I was surprised how much their body reminded me of a tick's.
Spidey stopped to sip some water I spilled from the hose.

I was trying to snap his photo but he was running at me and I'm afraid I may have freaked out a little.
This one's missing a few legs but still going strong.
Such freaky and amazing creatures!
Eek!

For some reason I can't kill any "daddy long legs". You took some really great pictures of them.

That is so funny you used that line, that has always been one of our favorite far side cartoons. We (My husband) still repeat it when we see one.
I have a bunch in my chicken house and I don't bother them until they start trying to trap me.
It does creep me out when they start being all aggressive and bouncing up and down in their web. Good pictures.

Can I tell you that I had an absolutely TRAUMATIC experience with a "daddy long legs" when I was very young? I remember one crawling into my baby pool (I couldn't have been more than 3 or 4) and I FLEW out of there so fast it's a wonder my mother ever caught me! That memory sticks with me to this day and I haven't been right since. Can't STAND those things! YUK!

Yuck...they are juicy when you step on them. That is even more gross! BTW, my son is 13 and has been an avid hunter for quite a few years already.

I think I read somewhere that they do bite. Not sure if that is correct -- but they do kind of freak me out. Other spiders, not so much.

Great shots!! We've seen a lot of them this year for some reason--I just give them their space, but some of them want the space I'm in and seem to not be afraid of me--I guess they know I am!

By the way, my nickname in school was "daddy-long-legs" because I was always taller than everyone else.

In england we call them Harvest Spiders and we call Crane Fly's Daddy Long Legs.

I don't mind crane fly's too much but me and spider's don't mix too well........ I tend to stand on a chair and scream..!!

Or... Get Billy to pop them outside.

Harvest spiders. I like that. And very fitting as they certainly show up more prevalently in the fall! :)

Nice shots of the Opiliones! I've always thought of them as being more closely related to ticks than spiders, but what do I know. :p
