Beautiful! I wish I could see that outside my office window. I only see walls...no windows :(
I have never seen a Kingfisher in my "real life," whatever that is... It looks rather large -- do they ever charge (as in attack, not like send you a bill you for posing) photographers? :)
Crud -- I did it again. Disregard the second "you" in the last sentence. Doy!
:) Nancy, they're actually quite small but have a BIG attitude! They're stout and top-heavy and their crest makes them even tougher. Like little squatty weight-lifters puffing out their chests. Just as I was writing this, I stood up to look out at the pond and one just went flying and chittering by (they're also very loud, and stirring up a ruckus!) I love 'em!
And no. They don't attack. They zip back and forth, occasionally landing in a tree or on a stump or just diving head-first into the pond with a big splash to catch a fish. My husband and I always laugh when we see them with their catch, back in a tree, bashing the poor fish into the tree limb to knock it out before eating it!
I sat on a log in the shallows in the middle of the Niobrara River for 45 minutes cooling down from the NE sun and hoping to get a shot on these allusive birds. They are fun to watch and do let you know when they are nearby.Fantastic shot.
What a handsome fellow! I thought the squiggles were reflections on the water!...LOL!...:)JP
Good shot! What are you using for a camera and lens? You are getting very good depth of field if it is a long lens.
I was out walking with the dog this afternoon and all of the birds you get pictures of were flying ahead of me always keeping one tree between me and it and I kept thinking you must have a great lens to get such good pictures because they never let me get close enough to even turn my camera on. So good for you.
Really nice shot with the reflection.
What a beauty. I’ve never seen one in person--how lucky to see one our your window :) Amy
I have never seen one of these either. You have a wonderful view from your office window!Glad to see that birds party too;)))
A Kingfisher? It looks like a roadrunner to my ignorant eyes! :D Remember that show? I'll have to google this little guy and learn something about him.
Very cool! I like the mental image of it bashing fish. Lots going on at your place!
