Out in the snow yesterday...

While the dogs were playing and I was picture-taking and filling bird feeders, a flock of snow geese flew overhead - and yes, they were heading back SOUTH!

This little guy says, "Can you blame them?!"
These two Northern Shovelers decided to just hunker down and wait it out instead of winging elsewhere (along with about a thousand blackbirds)...

Well, you were lucky to catch anything, I would have been so frozen.

We have about ten Canadian geese in our yard. Guess Virginia is as far south as they wanted to travel!

Flying South you say? OMG, what's coming next?

amazing photos...my camera is too slow to capture birds on wing. I can understand the birds flying south again...the weather has been so strange.

I think I'd like to go south too. I love that first picture. How do you like your new camera. We're thinking of all chipping in for the human's birthday.

Ha, Ha!!! You've got more snow than I have :). Fuuny how the black birds flock when it snows.

Girly we are going to have to move south if we want a nice winter I guess, oh wait thats right we do live south!!! Some snow melted today and hopefully a lot more tomorrow! Our pond however is still frozen solid on top ..maybe tomorrow will melt some...Great photos..

I am contemplating flying south myself. Love these pictures. Did the geese honk as they flew over?

I remember in Alaska seeing the snow-geese and being envious of their trip--I could use some warmth and an escape from it all too! :-)

Flying south? I was hoping that spring was getting closer! Oh well, we'll just have to play in the snow some more :)

Yes, they were honking away! And I actually saw another flock of them (also heading south!) later that same day! I see a trend here!

Texan, our pond was completely frozen over this morning - poor ducks were standing on it. By this afternoon it's completely clear so we must have had more sun than you got. I hope yours clears tomorrow!

Getting a clear, in focus picture of geese flying over is difficult. You make it look easy! Pretty funny too. They must be headed to Florida, the only state without snow!

That's a big fluffy white blanket!! You captured the birds beautifully.
Have a sweet Sunday, ours is not white but very stormy though xxxx

Oh my goodness I love the geese!! What great photos, bet they were noisy little guys huh? How much further South they were trying to go? LOL. Love the blackbird photos too, now I have to admit, those guys...I wish they would keep flying South!! We cannot get rid of those, constantly have a backyard FULL!!! :)

The geese are quite nice to see again.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but seems not too long ago the geese were headed south over our place. But how much further south can you go? :)

The geese are actually winging in for the Super Bowl. They look like Packers fans to me. Great shots!
