Puffer fish in a tree

The tiny pine siskins did their best to keep warm while NE Texas was in the deep freeze this past week.

The cardinals were pretty puffed out too.
"Does this twig make my gut look big?"

"Don't make ONE comment about my girth, ya hear me?!"
I'm happy to report that, thanks to yesterday's sunshine (hurray!), we are well on our way to normal Texas weather sans ice and snow.  At least for now - more snow in the forecast for next week...  So happy Superbowl weather, everyone in DFW!

Those poor little birds, went south to get out of the cold and now they are smack dab in it. I hope that it does warm up for a bit today.

How funny! I think they are so cute all puffed out like that and for the females of the group--I think they look voluptuous not fat or girthy :) LOL
Great shots as always lady.

Poor babies, they certainly didn't expect this weather when they came South for the winter. I'm glad that they have all of that puffy insulation, though.

You commented on the amount of bird seed that you are going through on my blog. I have a suggestion that might, if you don't do it already, cut down on your bill a bit. Instead of buying bird seed, buy cracked corn, sunflower seeds and niger seed. The ground birds will eat the corn, where there will leave a lot of the waste seed like millet in regular birdseed. The feeder birds will love straight sunnies, and I think you already get niger seed for the finches.

Around here, cracked corn is about the least expensive stuff you can get.

Thanks, Louise. I'll ask at the feed store if they have cracked corn. I already feed hen scratch too but that has millet and other stuff mixed in too. Yes, I do feed the niger and black-oil sunflowers too. I want a grain silo!!! :)

Are you really slated to get more precip this week? I thought and was really hoping that the geese had erred by heading South!...:)JP

Yup, they're saying 2 inches by Wednesday. UGH! It's like a light switch around here On; Off; On; Off. Mother Nature, you're gonna blow a fuse!!!

Lovely bird photos. They must wonder what's going on with the weather so far south. Good you have food and nice trees for them to rest and puff up in.--Inger

Happy Sunday, T! I SO hope they are wrong about another storm! I wonder if the birds and critters gripe and complain among themselves - about the nasty weather? They sure have to fluff up to keep warm, don't they?

Pretty pics. I love those Cardinals. They look so pretty against the white snow. I think I even like the looks of the females better than the males. A note about cracked corn; I've notice with the cracked corn, I get more flies and nats. I don't get that with whole corn and seeds. But then, the birds won't eat the whole corn. Guess it's a trade off.
