Grebes

The second pied-billed grebe hung around for a few days.  One of the two celebrated kinship with a big fish catch.
Cutest little thing with a huge catch in his bill.

It took several attempts to swallow the fish.
But it was finally successful.
Looking mighty pleased with itself.
The visiting grebe flew off after a few days.  Nessie stayed with us a bit longer, disappeared for a day, then came back, only to leave again. I've got one more set of photos of him/her I'll post in a few days, but I believe Nessie may be gone for the season.

Wow I've never seen one of these, never even herd of one. Looks like a duck to me. I'm looking to the future post of these Grebs.

Hey Tex,
is that bird idigenous to Texas? I actually have never heard of it but that doesn't mean it isn't here in NC. I'll have to investigate!
