Mixed Bag O' Birds

Yellow-rumped warbler
Downy woodpecker (in a twist)
Cardinal
Well-fed pine siskins
Brown-headed cowbird
And I was totally psyched to win a giveaway from KaHolly for this very cool bird I.D. book.  It's bright, big, beautiful, and chockful o' birds.  My kinda prize, for sure.

One can never have enough bird books - especially when I use them as reference for my drawings too.  Thanks, KaHolly!!!

Congrats on the bird book. I am wondering how a bird gets to be named a "yellow rumped warbler". I didn't know birds had rumps. Hmmmm. :)

Ya- how come some birds get nice names or comical names and then there is the Brown h
Headed Cowbird?
That woodpecker is a beauty!

lucky you are in Texas...we have snow this morninging:)

we are still waiting for our cardinals, they are usually here preparing their nest, but not so far, doves are the only ones that have shown up besides the local predators, hawks and eagles, and i am thinking that is why they are not here. we have ibis and egrets and herons and buzzards, but no song birds

Great photos as usual and I love cardinals in particular. I have no patience for bird watching but when I happen upon one, I am always thrilled.

I just found your blog via The Wife of a Dairyman. I love your bird pictures. Birds are so little, they remind me to be more resilient.

What a great book, I wonder if it is available for Western birds. I am always surprised at the number of birds I see from bloggers in the East & South that I don't see here.

I think woodpeckers are so cool but can't seem to attract any to our feeders.
