Hah, it looks like the wood decoys my husband collects from the NC and East coast...just lovely! Are they big collector's items where y'all live?

I will watch that show on DVD some day. It's by David Simon, the guy who did The Wire, my favorite TV show, so I know it must be good. I love what shows up at your pond. And since I've become so fond of titmouses, I think I may sign up for the giveaway. You never know.--Inger

The verbage confused me. I thought they were decoys. I thought, man those are nice decoys. I like ducks but seldom have any in my backyard to photograph. I did once though and just posted that the other day.

Oh, how lucky you are!! I'm reading a wonderful book about wood ducks and their even more beautiful cousin, the mandarin. They are remarkable little ducks and so secretive and shy that many don't get an opportunity to observe them. Will you try to sketch them? (hint, hint!) ~karen

So beautiful that they don't look real.

They have to be the most beautiful ducks I've ever seen. The males are so awesome. Have you ever watched the babies jump from their nest into the water; mama builds the nest up high to protect her babies. Truly a very special duck.

TexwisGirl,
I would like to talk to you about doing a drawing for me. It would be of my son's falcon. Don't know if you have visited his site but if you do, you will know why. I love drawing but don't do as well with color. His bird deserves to be in color. Email me through my blog if you are interested.

Your comments are so serious . . .

You sure they're wood ducks? They look like sitting ducks to me.

We usually have a couple stop over at the cabin pond for a couple of days each spring. I've tried to set my cameras for them without much luck :(.

Wood ducks are so beautiful. Every spring they check out the pond on our upper pasture, but to my knowledge, a pair has nested only once.
