Blogger, you're killing me!!!

We've all been having issues with Blogger lately.  Problems with leaving comments, staying signed in or popping back to "Anonymous", now the Followers block is disappearing yet again.  Up until today, I had limited issue leaving comments all around Bloggerville as long as I left the "stay signed in" box unchecked when I first signed in to Google.  Well today Blogger keeps giving me "Service Not Available" when I try to post a comment, or it just hangs there, lost in space, then half the time takes my comment or eats it.

As this lovely free land of Bloggerville tests our patience yet again, won't you PLEASE consider taking Word Verification off of your blog?  That would surely save some of us from even more blood pressure spikes.  ESPECIALLY if you also moderate your comments before you allow them to post (sort of like a double deadbolt on your blog!  Seriously?!)

I took Word Verification off many months ago and almost never have an oddball comment or spam link or any issues.  I don't allow Anonymous comments on my blog and that prevents a lot of worries, I think.  Please check your settings if you're not sure how your blog is set up for comments.

Go to your Dashboard.
Select Settings.
Then the Comments tab.
JUST SAY NO to Word Verification!

And, while you're at it, please change your comments placement position to Pop-Up window or Full-Page rather than Embed Below Post.  So often, Embed Below Post causes issues and is known to rile feathers with page reloads while you're trying to type in a comment.

In addition, if the Followers block is gone from a blog that you've discovered and would like to sign up to follow, there's usually a menu bar appearing at the top of your page when you're viewing a Blogger blog, and you can click Follow there and sign up without the Google Friend Connect block appearing on the blog's side-bar.

If Blogger keeps up like this, I'll be forced to forego leaving comments like I try to when I come by to visit.  And that just takes all the fun out of blogging, doesn't it?!

I know I'm not the only one out here struggling through all this mess.  So please, streamline your comment process as much as possible.  Please?!  THANKS!

Thanks for the advise. Now, go take some of those awesome pictures you are so famous for. I drool over your place. We have a great amount of land, a creek, log cabin, nice home and look at me wanting more. Shame on me. I do love your pond oh so much. Keep the glory coming.

Hello again,
I had problems writing comments a few days ago. I got the advice, from another blogger, to change my computer from explorer to firefox. I did that, and then I could write comments in other blogs again.

I must say I love Wordpress! Unfortunately, there's a lot of people out there that won't allow comments unless it's from another blogger member. I think it's part of Google's attempt to take over the world. (Muwahahahaha!) (By the way, I had to retype this because of the service not available message.)

I am so tempted to copy your post and use it on my own blog--especially the part about blogs that insist on word verification AND comment approval. Blogger--despite all the problems of late--has a very good spam detection system. I never get spam, even with anonymous commenting allowed. I do get the occasional email notification that a spammer has tried, but the comment is never posted to my blog.

If you don't allow anonymous comments, which of the other choices do you select? Just curious.

Thanks for the PSA! :)

Welcome to my world! It is blogger in it's most devious form these days. I had to wait for blogger to open your pop-up, just now. It's everywhere, I say, EVERYWHERE! I believe it's google as well, I can't count the times I have waited and waited for google to respond. I think we can tweak all we want, doubtful it will make much of a difference in the long run.

MY thought is too much widgets and gadgets and pictures and avatars etc and it's just too much for it to handle the load at the busy times.

It's true... word verification is hard to get through sometimes and takes a lot of extra time.

I will check mine today and stop word verification if it's on. Nice, constructive post.

I just changed to pop-up window, this is the first I've heard of the issue with comments below the post... You sound as frustrated today as I was yesterday! Maybe a nice long walk with your camera would help???:@)

Have the same issues here! Working right now though. I have had the word verification off my blog for a long time and Blogger Spam has blocked any spam comments I receive....works great! Hopefully these issues will be resolved soon!

Well girly as you know from my recent email, I too am having issues posting! Takes me several tries to get the photo and link button to activate for use. But as you say it is a free service so we will all hope blogger can resolve these issues.

Now having said that I totally agree with removing the word verification. I did that ages ago because it was giving me fits on other peoples blogs when I tried to leave a comment. So I took it off mine!

I will have to go see what my comment is set at, pop up or whole page or what I am not sure. But will check it.

Amen! I so agree.

Ya know I just went and checked my Our Little Farm blog and I know I had the word verification set for no, but it was on yes. Well its set back to no now.

GLORY HALLELUJAH! Someone has finally said everything I've been dying to say for a looong time, now!!! I didn't post it, because I didn't want to make anyone mad, but blogger has definitely gotten worse & I'm at the point now that that isn't much of an issue anymore!!!

I agree w/ you 100% & couldn't have said it any better myself! AMEN!

I seriously hope they listen to you, too, about the word verification & the pop-up window comments... I saw the word verif as a double whammy from the start & it just makes me cringe every time I visit a blog w/ that on there!!!

God bless ya, girl, & thank you for saying what I've been too chicken to say!!!

I'm almost hesitant to say this because I don't want to bring a jinx down on myself, but I've had none of the problems I've been hearing about all over blogland, except for that one big CRASH that Thursday a few weeks back. I know some people are still trying to find a new normal. I believe the reason I've not had any troubles is because I don't use Internet Explorer. I've used Firefox for years and would never go back to IE. but if you're using that already then my theory is...WRONG! can't blame a girl for trying though. I hope the problem is solved soon. on a lighter note, I'm loving those swallow babies!!! those eyes are killing me. have a great weekend Theresa.

Hey Girlie, Just wanted you to know that even though I am not commenting much now--I am reading all of your posts....

Love this one --and totally AGREE. I've been begging people for 2 yrs. to do all of this.. For people like you and me who have lots of people to visit, it does make a huge difference.... Hope they listen to you.

Hugs,
Betsy

Their spam filter has gotten pretty good.
I hate capthas.
hate 'em, hate 'em, hate 'em

I removed the word verification months ago (I wish Blogger would remove it completely as I've lost too many comments I didn't feel like re-writing) and I just changed the comments placement. Thanks for the advice :)

Clint said...

If you do not allow anonymous comments, then you are missing comments from followers whose blog is screwed up and that is the only way they can comment. I've still got a couple of those.

Frank said...

Frustration overload!!

If this increasing trend of 'Goggle' crap continues I'm seriously thinking of giving it all a rest for a while. In the meantime I'll test the removal of verification and review the outcome.

I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and have been using that instead of Internet Explorer for blogging. Blogger seems to like it much better - not nearly so many issues and it does let me stay signed in.

I think it is a problem with various servers. I like Becky have not experienced any problems (knock on wood). I unfortunately do get Spam as I have said before. I will take off the WV for awhile to see what happens but it the Spam comes back I will have to put it back on again. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

SO AGREE with all of it!!!!!

Sandra said...

thank God i am not the only one having problems. i am having the same issues you are. i click and it says waiting for blogger and goes to white screen, i close and it opens, i have had to enter each blog twice and most comment boxes twice and i am on the edge of giving up.

barbara l. hale said...

I haven't had any problems yet but probably will if they are rampant. I chose to have a pop-up window without word verification. I hope that helps.

Marissa ♥ said...

Amen!
I can't even read that capcha thing anyways!
I have to retype word verification over and over before I get it right.

I agree completely....

Just changed my comment placement. I wasn't aware that embedded comments caused a problem. Thanks for the heads up!

AMEN, TexWis girl! You've hit the nail on the head. Blogger needs to learn how to play nice!!!!

Oh THANK YOU for saying this and wish everyone on blogs would hear it!! Very tactfully put--thanks again!!

Amen! Get rid of the word verification. I am so glad I did, and I haven't had any problems.

Lisa RedWillow said...

I agree to make is easier also. Great blog. I took off the word verification a while ago also . It sure can be a hassle.

bon bon said...

ok hon, for you i will remove verification. maybe the spammers i had a few years back have forgotten about me. ;o)

i lost my list of followers today too! started googling for a fix, wasted an unsuccessful 30 minutes (i didn't have) trying stuff, now tonight it's back, all by itself! a mouse must've chewed some wires over at blogger's HQ...

SquirrelQueen said...

Like you I got rid of word verification on both of my blogs about a year ago, I've had pop up comments even longer.

It would make everyone's life so much easier here in blogdom if everyone would do the same.

Surprisingly I have had only a minor problem or two the last few days. I use Firefox.

Thank you for writing this! Hopefully more people will follow along. Another thing that drives me nuts is the embedded jukebox, ipod or any other music gadget that wants to start playing. If I want to hear music, I'll turn on the radio.

Negerigeletschtempoit said...

I think I did it already but, for good measure, I am going to check again. And I will copy your "Word Verification Free Blog" button, OK?

I guess I have not been missing a lot by not blogging from the sounds of this...I really feel like making a statement at the beginning of each post for people to check and see if they have the embedded comment form...I hate that puppy something fierce....I will occasionally leave comments...but sometimes I just won't even bother. Specially when I have not had time to blog.

I can deal with word verification as long as it is in the pop up form, though I totally agree with you about it being double deadbolt...and like you, I have not had that many problems since I stopped using it. And usually when I do they are on old posts...

Samantha said...

THANK YOU for posting this.
I HATE word verification..so many problems with it.
I've gotten so frustrated with it I'm skipping commenting on blogs with verification. It's just too much hassle.
