Mourning dove youngster

I don't think I've ever seen a young mourning dove before - at least not one colored this way.  I thought he/she was fascinating.

Yes, parent bird, you're beautiful too!

I have looked at lots of them and I have never noticed that color before either.
We had one that nested in a tree outside the door once and she was pink. That one looks kind of peachy in color.

We have lots of mourning doves eating the seeds below the feeder, but don't think I've seen a young one like this. Cute.

Hello!! I'm catching up on what I've missed and see that I've missed some great shots over the last few days--The herons are just incredible and the Whistler ducks are in a class of their own, as is that ginormous bone which for some reason just seems funny to me...

PS: THANK YOU for your good thoughts that you've left on my blog!

oooohhhh these are wonderful.

i am not sure i have seen a "youngin" mourning dove either. i think your adult one has a heart shape to the eye also.

i am seeing such a varity of baby birds right now, everywhere!!! maybe it's because i am more aware right now, more tuned in!!

What a sweet little baby, so bright eyed and curious about the world around him/her. You're lucky, I think. I have never seen a young Mourning Dove, that I know of, at least.

You now with all the bird nests I watched as I kid, I am sure I had to see baby doves but I don't remember it. I think doves are just the most gently looking creature...I love them.

We have lots of these too, and I just love the babies!
