The "What Was I Thinking?!" Giveaway...

Okay.  Sometimes you start out with the best intentions and it goes south...  For June's bird drawing, I chose a photo I had taken of a male ruby-throated hummingbird to draw from.  I chose the photo because it was close, clear, and well, it's a hummingbird, even though it was in a rather straight-on pose.  After I did my colored pencil rendition of it, I wondered, "Who the heck is going to want a portrait of an alien bug-monster?!"  UGH!

Well, rather than starting over, I figured I might as well put it out there in case anyone collects original artwork of alien bug-monsters...  Then this would be perfect for you!!!
1.  Just leave a comment saying you'd like to, er, win this drawing!
2.  Be a public follower of this blog who won't be too embarrassed to, er, win this drawing!
I'll draw a name from a hat after a few days (or sooner if no one wants in!)
Okay.  Here's the alien bug-monster prize in a 5x7 frame:

And if no one wants it, I'll hang it in my alien bug-monster invaded bathroom...

Okay, on 2nd thought, I'll do a two-fer.  To make up for the insane-looking bug-creature above, I'll throw in this little print of a magic marker drawing I did some 18 yrs. ago of a more normal-looking side-view hummingbird.  It's just a copy of my original, but it's framed in a cute little 5x5 frame.
So there you have it - if you want it.  Just giving you a look at my flaws.  Perhaps I should stick to the camera work...

This giveaway opportunity is now closed!

Hi, very nice art. I couldn't comment on your posts because there was an error in my internet connection.

Girl, I'll gladly give that little hummer a home! I think he's sweet so enter me in the drawing.

you crack me up! not his best side maybe, but still perfectly charming!

Haha! Awesome. The top one would make a wonderful gift for my friend who is deathly afraid of hummingbirds. lol! Seriously, another girlfriend and I sat and laughed at her FREAK OUT over hummingbirds one day. In hind sight, that wasn't very nice of us, but the thought of it still makes me chuckle. The bottom one would look fabulous somewhere in the vicinity of Eleanor.

I would love to have them!! I used to hike just for the exercise. This summer I have started taking photos along the way. My camera is a simple camera so the pictures I take are adequate for my pleasure. Lately, I've been taking a lot of shots of birds. Yesterday it was a blue bird. I'm still trying to get a shot of the Great Blue Heron. I see him through the trees etc., but never have a good vantage point.
I would be thrilled to have one or two of your creations!! Thanks so much for your blog!

Enter me, please. There is definitely a story in the first picture (Ruby Franken-throat)and the second one is lovely. I did a pastel of a golden retriever and a cat a few years ago. My family ohhed and ahhed over the dog. When I added the cat, they suggested that I use it as a dart board. I wasn't insulted because the cat was by anyone's standards- wretched! It looked 100% evil and angry. That poor golden retriever!

Are you kidding? These are both wonderful! I'd say you're way too critical of your artwork. Don't give up either of your hobbies. You rock!

You did a beautiful job on BOTH hummingbirds! I would be proud to display him right near my Cardinal!!

you crack me up. I like them both. you've got talent and it shows.

Sharon said...

T, I didn't have a good laugh all day! Thanks so much! :-)

Negerigeletschtempoit said...

Oh, that's not fair on the first humming bird. The second is super art, but the first is the one I want!

You see, it's like when you are looking for a pet. A pet that will be loved with all your heart, right? You don't need to go for the pure bred ones - the not so "distinct" are usually the ones that you will love most.

So, although I think that, since I already had the honour of getting one of your beautiful presents, I should let other people join instead, I do raise my hand and say that I'd love to have the first birdy!

xxxxxx

See? We are good, girl!!!!!!!
Love ya!!!!!

I've only seen one hummingbird this year, so count me in! :-)) I also love your 'butterfly hearts' photo. I've not seen to many yet this year either--I guess they're still in your direction!

THANKS for the thoughts about the Phoebe's--She was sitting on that nest practically all the time, so I don't know what happened...But as I said, at least there were no eggs...

You crack me up!
Loving the hummingbird, I think she'd have an amazing time if she ever decided to wing her way to my nest in Australia.

The other guy....the juries still out on that one, but we all know not to judge a book by its cover don't we?

I must be having a really bad visual concept day. I don't see an alien bug monster in that drawing. I also can't see the hearts on the butterfly either. But hey, I understand fully how one looks at their own work. I have a pen & ink I did of a hummingbird long ago. I think it really not-so-good. So what does my wife do? She hangs it up in plain sight (because she likes it) and people come over and think it is spectacular. Meanwhile my good work she's hung up in the bathroom...behind the door. Do as you always do with me in regards to the drawing. Thanks.

Hey, the fact that you tried is 90% of it, in my opinion. We are all our own worst critics. I admire your talent and generosity. :)
