Are those wood ducks? Sorry I'm new and haven't caught up, yet. I read a few more posts early this morning, though. Enjoyable reads, I might add.

It looks like the egret was just checking to make sure they were behaving!!

Really sweet!

I think they were ignoring the cattle egret and their tactics seemed to have worked because he left.

Posie Patchwork said...

Now this E&P aren't going to suffer the same fate as the original Elvis & Priscilla are they?? Do ducks stay with their mate for life like swans?? It is one reason i like swans extra, their loyalty to each other. Love Posie

I do so love that they invited company to watch the pond. Cool shot. B

How bad are drought conditions at this point?

Sandra said...

I am thinking Elvis and Priscilla put out a call to come enjoy the show and watch the crazy lady with the camera. Egret came to see what the show was all about.

Wish I could stand around on one leg! LOL!!

Those are great reflection shots!

Everybody gathering around the pond to talk about the weather!

I can't get over that gorgeous, rich brown of E &P.

Roan said...

Let's get the party started! Awesome reflections.

Such a zen life. Meditation, tree pose, twists, unmoved by change.

They're such a happy and contented couple :D)

The third one is always not welcome.

They are such a handsome couple! Lovely captures of them gazing at the pond - dreaming of their future together?

Lois Evensen said...

It looks like E and P aren't that impressed with the guest. Maybe he'll leave if the just ignore him. ;)

Woody said...

You, buddy, three's a crowd? Thank you.

Good to see E&P haven't taken the 'Hollywood' route of divorce.

E to P: If you can't eat, ignore it. Great series.

Talk about getting the cold shoulder! Those are such sweet pics.

Montanagirl said...

Nice series! Are the Cattle Egrets year-round residents for your area? I have seen only one of those in my life, and I posted him recently. It was over at Bowdoin NWR, and obviously migrating, as were the two Snowy Egrets that he was with.

Mildred said...

Such cute photos and I love the reflections! Have a great weekend.

Lisa @ Two Bears Farm said...

The egret is the annoying tourist that is always walking into someone else's picture...

Ellie said...

Oh, how cute are they - standing on one leg watching the world go by.

Desiree said...

I love Lisa's comment :) I must say the tranquility of the scene grabbed my attention. I can fully comprehend why Elvis & Priscilla were both so contented just to stand and gaze, awestruck and seemingly frozen in time. I reckon I would have reacted in a similar fashion had I been there! Lovely photographs :)

A fine series of these birds putting on a show for us. I like how they stand on one foot at the same time. The white bird seems to not be bothered that they are nearby.

Evelyn S. said...

What a pair!!! Love these photos of yours...always. I'm curious as to whether they are a breeding pair because I know it's past chick time, I'm assuming.

Cindy said...

It's so nice seeing everyone getting along so well. Fun pictures.

Sweet lovers, in spite of the age difference.

Looks like Elvis and Priscilla have found a friend.

Margaret said...

Ha! They aren't very neighborly. The seem to be ignoring the white bird... LOL

P to E - "What's that odd bird doing here again?"

They should have some nicely cleaned backsides by now. =)

Elizabeth Grimes said...

Ah, the best lookin couple around. :)

They seem to be getting along better then the real Elvis and Priscilla - they are so pretty.

aaaaah...just chilling out (oops! sorry!)...by the pond!
i can tell that they can stand on one leg a heck of a lot longer than me...
i guess the egret didn't feel like joining in their yoga session...maybe next time...

~Kim at Golden Pines~ said...

I guess Priscilla and Elvis are like me, and just aren't up for company right now! :-)

barbara l. hale said...

I just think it would be great to have the ability to sleep on one foot. Think how handy that would be while waiting in line. Terrific series. Glad the egret doesn't bother them.

Ah life at the pond. What wonderful creatures you find there. As a new follower here I have been checking thru some older blogs and more. I am so impressed with your site here as well as you ranch. Our ranches are similair yet so different. My beaver pond looks barren this year as the dam blew out during spring high water. Looks like your pond as it dries out. WE used to hay but don't anymore as we decided to let the fields flood from all the beaver dams. I got tired of opening up to 15 dams 2 weeks before haying and that was by hand. Let me tell you I know 1st hand how well they are built. So now we just have some of our neighbors cows on the big field to eat the grass. Due to going south for the winter every year our pets had to be reduce to only 2 cats. I so love all your dogs. My last one passed away a few years ago and just haven't gotten another one. Many years ago had to also get rid of my horse because of going south for the winter. Anyway I tend to ramble sometimes when visiting. Not much of a rambler on my own blogs. Anyway love your ranch and your website here.

Oh to have a pond, with all the wild life. It's awesome, I love your photos.

i have to say you have the BEST names for your wildlife:))

Ms. Becky said...

they both ended up standing on one leg. I adore these two.

Sylvia K said...

Yep, love the names you give your critters and these are great shots as always! The egret does seem to be checking in! Hope your weekend is going well!

Fun! Looks like they still have some water. :)

Paula said...

The egrets around here are odd. Sometime they are here and other times we don't see them. We started water running into the stock tank this morning. Now the cattle will switch over there to drink out of that pipe. Looks like they would not pee and poop in their own water.

Andrew said...

I was going to say "threes a crowd" but got beaten to it...
Doh! I said it anyway.

Farm Girl said...

I was just thinking about those too and I wondered how they were doing in the heat and the pond that keeps dropping. Thanks for the update.

Betsy from Tennessee said...

Hi Theresa, Wouldn't it be nice someday if we were water birds --and could enjoy that water during the hot summer like they do??????? Getting in the water somewhere is the only cure for this hot summer. Great pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy

Rose said...

I think the egret might be a little bit jealous of the pair!

heyBJK said...

Who named the now famous Elvis and Priscilla, anyway? I'm guessing you did. Have you tried naming tree rats yet? LOL

georgettesullins said...

The rain gauge is a hoot! Those birds know where to find water since there's no waiting on rain here.

Thanks for your comments, there are several water towns around Shanghai, like Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Luzhi, etc, you can certainly find an inner peace there.
Your pics are usually amazing. Have a nice day.

BTW I love your Texas rain gauge on the sidebar!

Greetings T! Catching up on your posts today...Love that birdhouse! Leave it to a Dakotan to piece together all that character! Glad to see Elvis and Priscilla still have water to swim in! I laughed at the Texas rain gauge! Enjoyed the tour of your "little" town. Your town actually sells clothes and Sonic burgers???? That would be called city-living where I come from :). Have a great Sunday!
