A gift from North Dakota

Be still my bird-loving heart!  This week I received a gift from a friend of my husband's in North Dakota.  SuhWEEET!
Fashioned from heavy old barn boards, a ND license plate from 1975, a door knob and hinges, it's a keeper!
It even has 'mother-in-law' quarters on the side.
It will be freed up for birdie use next spring, but for now it is adorning the kitchen.

Thanks, "D", for gifting this to me!  Big Texas hugs to you (or a slug in the arm) - whichever can be delivered without incident!  :)

So cute! I probably would keep it in the house so the weather wouldn't rot it over time. I have a red barn one here in the computer room that John's sister sent to us.

I LOVE this!!! The doorknob is perfect. And that license plate. Just leave off the mother-in-law quarters, if you please. :D Can't she have her own house on the other side of your property? hihi

Shhh, don't tell I said that.

Mike said...

That's a very nice bird house. I too, design and build some. Not as elaborate as that, though. Here's a link for 2 (click on the pics to enlarge for a better look-see) http://ourlittlemeadow.blogspot.com/2010/07/under-construction.html
We won a 'plain jane' saltbox house with a license plate roof once. It's been hangin' in a tree for years, nobody wants it. I had another hanging at the back of the lot. Mr. squirrel enlarged the hole and took up residence in it.

Clint said...

Really cute. But it needs a new roof, and I hear even a small roof job'll run ya around $3,500....

Just sayin'... :)

Sandra said...

A precious and lovely gift you got there, my friend!! How creative and interesting, the way the old pieces were used.

I would go out to the Dollar Store to buy a regular bird house to hang outside, and I would keep this one inside my house forever! This way I would not feel guilty for stealing it... hehehe...
