I swear! I didn't kill him!

One hot day, I watched the squirrels eating from the bird feeders (like usual).  Suddenly, one of them folded over a tree limb and just hung there.
I watched him for a while, and, of course, snapped some photos.
At one point, he got up, returned to the feeder for a few seeds, then went back to the same spot, and flopped over the limb again!

Isn't that like when you put babies over your legs to help them with gas or something? Maybe he's just stretching his stomach to make more room!

Lisa @ Two Bears Farm said...

Wait! Is he dead? Or just passed out? Get that boy a V-8!

Snappy Di said...

Is that a squirrel belly ache moan I hear? Poor guy. Maybe he would like some Alka Seltzer or a swig of Pepto Bismol.

YOU may not have shot him, but I was ready to shoot Buddy at 5:30 this morning when he showed up at the train station withOUT his driver’s license. 2 days ago I took his license off the bedside table and told him he needed to take it when he promptly said it was an old one and his current one was in his billford....NO need to check. And, no, it was not there this morning. Thanks goodness I MDE him take the passport because I thought he might want to spend a night in Canada. What would these men do without us? I just grinned and helped him find the passport and that did it. I am going to mail him his driver’s license in one of his food boxes so he will have it in case he loses the passport. Hikers are definitely a different breed. Already I miss him so. At the moment he is in Penn. Station and will leave at 3:30 for Vermont. Tomorrow the hike begins. thank goodness I came on over to my son’s to be m=with my granddaughter or I would have been so sad. I just want everything to turn out perfectly for him. Thanks for your interest. Hugs, Genie

How strange...I wonder whats wrong!

Happier Than a Pig in Mud said...

Maybe it's a ploy, did all the lady squirrels come running to make sure he was ok?:@)

Bob Bushell said...

When it is hot over there, you moaned about it, so, in the winter, what do you do, moan a lot more. The squirrel is hanging about.

Farm Girl said...

Poor guy, the heat just got to him. I know there are days I feel just like that.

Kerry said...

If I had to wear a fur coat in the kind of heat you have, this is exactly how I would look too.

don said...

An amazing series that way you got this squirrel in such strange behavior. Now you must finish this story…did he wake up and move from there, or does he still hang there?

Samantha said...

T..doping your squirrels for blog photo ops?! ;)

I'm with Kerry..fur coats in that TX heat would be a killer!

Gone Country said...

What have you put in those seeds, hahaha?! Poor thing! Although, I'm kinda feeling that way myself today!

He does look dead, not a bit less
adorable, though. I think I know what he was feeling. Sometimes, after a big meal, I also feel like falling somewhere and just staying like that - plop flat on my stomach!
Love ya, girl!

merilee said...

wow! that's really amazing shots of squirrel...beautiful shots.

bon bon said...

that's just wacky. heat related, perhaps...?

Deb said...

That's just strange. But then again, I actually feel like doing that when I go out in this heat too.

Poor little guy, suffering from heat exhaustion! Funny looking though...

Tammy said...

Oh, the poor critters. My Mom lives in Oklahoma and was telling me that it has been so hot for so long that she has been finding dead hummingbirds on her window sill. She has been adding chilled nectar to the feeders a couple times a day, and has put a safety fan on her patio. She said they line up on a wire in front of the fan with their little tongues hanging out.

Sinbad and I on the Loose said...

Sic the hounds on him. That'll get him to come alive. Well on second thought, the hounds are probably doing the same thing as that rodent is.

Roan said...

Looks like heat stroke...poor little feller is hot.

Annette said...

That's a first -- you sure he's not dead??

Debbie said...

Girly I know how that poor little guy feels. I went out for about 10 minutes a bit ago. Well I can honestly say 110 degrees is like breathing air from a hair dryer! I don't know bout you but I have sooooooooo had enough of this! I know, whine whine whine.. but mercy me.

KaLynn ("MiMi") said...

Poor little guy! Wonder if you sprayed him with water if it would have revived him?

We are on day 52 of triple digit weather and even longer without rain. I think of all the animals around and wonder how they are making it.

Cindy said...

BTW,, I love the Texas rain gauge! LOL!!

Andrew said...

I love the way he has positioned himself so he is just out of reach of the dogs lol.

Rose said...

Are you sure he is not teasing the dogs??? A squirrel, who might have been Mama before we made each other's aquaintance used to get just the other side of the fence to tease Sarah's dog. It was so funny to watch.

Then Mama Squirrel and I made friends, and she definitely knew the difference between our two dogs...but I never seen her tease Sarah's dog again, so just don't know.

Rain said...

my guy used to tell our girls the squirrels had a lot of heart attacks around our place!!?!!

Poor little fellar! He IS still alive, isn't he? I guess the heat and no rain is just as hard on the critters.

Karen Thomason/Gordon Setter Crossing said...

I can't believe all the things you see there! That is so funny. I've never seen a squirrel do that, but the ones here at my house will stretch out on the porch rail and take a nap.
