Sweet Blog Award!

Two of my lovely blogging pals recently awarded me the Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award.  My teeth hurt after looking at this thing!  :)
Anyway, my sincerest thanks to Ellie at Ellie's Place and Tammy at Tammy's Photography Spot for naming my little blog as a dental nightmare!  If you don't know these two ladies yet, please go visit.

The standard blog award rules apply:
1.  Thank and link back to the awarder(s).  (check!)
2.  Spill 7 things you may not know about me (ugh!)
3.  Pass it on to 7 more deserving blogs.  (double ugh!)

Okay, here goes part 2:
1.   I drive a stick-shift - have, ever since I bought my first car when I was 17.  Even when I was commuting into Dallas in dreadful traffic, I wouldn't relinquish that manual control for the sake of giving my clutch foot a rest.  Makes me crazy that a lot of vehicles aren't even offered in manual transmission anymore.
2.  I am not a thrill-seeker, but I do have a propensity to speed in said vehicle.  Yes, I've paid my share of speeding tickets through the years and taken a few defensive driving courses too (dammit!)  I don't drive a sports car for good reason; I get plenty of speed out of my fuel-efficient, 5-speed Honda, thank you very much.  A girl's got to manage her vices...
3.  My dream car is a 1970 Chevelle SS.  Whew, could I ever get some speeding tickets in this baby...

4.  I rarely read books.  And when I do, it's usually new-agey, spiritualish topics.  I haven't read fiction in probably 20+ years.
5.  Recipes make me run for cover.  I can cook, but don't like to.  So when you post a recipe on your blog, 90% of the time I won't even leave a comment.  Just not my cup of tea, or sugar, or flour or whatever...
(Are we done yet?!)
6.  My spelling, grammar and punctuation skills have been slipping this last year and a half of blogging and sprinkling comments all around the world via cyberspace.  I used to be a 'go-to gal' for writing and proofreading at the office.  My skills are getting slack and I am getting lax...
7.  I think weeds are as beautiful as flowers.  I also (conveniently) don't garden.  :)

Gak!  That was almost painful!
And for part 3, I'm going to have to pass this time.  I follow a ton of blogs (scads more than I should!  But what's a girl to do in this broiling hot, too-insane-to-be-outside, oven-roast-inside-the-car, summer?)  Some folks prefer not to participate in awards so as to not hurt any one's feelings.  I'm considering this a one-foot-in/one-foot-out participation in that I've shared more 'fascinating' facts about me but am foregoing the passing on part.  I hope y'all can manage with that.  You're all sweet to me!  ;)

Hehe...I think it's so funny you don't like to cook. Which is probably a GOOD thing this summer! I can't imagine cooking in the heat. But how do you eat?:)

T.@WhatWeKeep said...

You're funny! I can just see you in that car saying "eat my dust!" with your squirrel friend riding shotgun. LOL

Tanna at The Brick Street Bungalow said...

LOL! I won't be expecting to hear from you on the post I just did! LOL! Sometimes I wonder who decided what was a weed and what was a flower. ;)

Sandra said...

good idea on the one in and one out, had not thought of that. i am award free blog, but this makes for a good idea. I read 5 books every 2 weeks, all fiction and if have to choose between computer and books, it would be books. I love the car and would love to have it. I had a stick shift 68 Camaro that my mother said "do you HAVE to go through the gears like that out of every stop?" YES
never had a speeding ticket or any kind of ticket.
i like weeds better than flower, will always choose the weeds, we are just alike on the recipe and non cook.

Tanna at The Brick Street Bungalow said...

Okay, you just fooled me. ;)

Deb said...

I'm a weed girl too....the kind you look at...just incase some of you misunderstand what I'm talking about...it is fun to learn more about our blogging friends...

I used to not like to cook. Then I married someone who's favorite hobby is eating. He used to tease me about my cooking skills, or rather lack of. In fact, one time I was fixing a bowl of cereal and had a cigarette burning. It set off the smoke alarm just as he was walking in. He thought it was hilarious that I could even burn cold cereal!

I am with you on the driving fast, I love it and stick shifts. How else are you supposed to get a proper tire squeal? The mom bus I drive is a real debbie downer. No balls to that one!

Judy said...

Awww, my brother had a Chevelle. It looked very similar to that one. Congrats on the blog award, I'm with you on passing it along.

Candy C. said...

Enjoyed your part two "secrets!" Congrats on the award!

Texan said...

Now had I known number 4 I could have given you a box of books I bet you would have enjoyed! To late already gave them away. I enjoy books of that nature as well. Speaking of, my Astrology books have yet to surface since the move out and back in due to the floors being done. I have turned this place upside down, do you have them? LOL

My punctuation is and always has been lacking :O(. So your no longer the gal to ask for tutoring in these areas? :O)... sighh I am so going to need it I am pretty sure LOL.

Love that you won this.. so prefect and love the new facts owe have learned.. and love your dream car....I want one too

A lovely read... Automatics are still quite rare in the UK we nearly all drive manual "shifts" (me trying to speak American English lol)
I would love to have a go of that beautiful Chevelle it looks fantastic.

Chatty Crone said...

I am surprised you aren't award free - I just assumed. I'm glad your not.

Gosh I found stuff out about you that I never ever would have guessed.

A hot foot with a stick transmission.

You don't like to cook.

You don't like to garden.

Who knew?

Love it.

Ellie said...

I foud it difficult to write 7 things about myself too but you did well. Lol.
That is one lovely car I wouldn't mind a shot in it as well. Hope your teeth feel better soon. Lol

My Escape's a stick, not as sexy as the Chevelle but it serves me well. My neighbor had a little convertible fire engine red Mazda Miata when I moved in here, that would be trouble:@)

Congrats you non-cooking, speed-demon! LOL!

Paula said...

Congratulations on your award.

these are too funny! i'm just now trying to come up with my seven when i saw your post! i'm grateful you didn't pass it along to seven more, as now i have a good excuse to follow your lead! (although my legitimate excuse is i'm not sure i have seven followers.)

i love finding out you're a lead foot with a stick! race ya!!

Sharon said...

Hmm, Pretty dream car. My sister had a 69 something that looked like that only deep purple and I wanted one like it. Closest I ever got was a 73 Nova and I loved that car!
Lead foot, huh? I have never gotten a ticket of any kind.... not that I didn't deserve one.... just never got caught!

Don't cook? Neither do I. Not anymore.

I tend to over punctuate everything!!!

Barb said...

I like your way of thinking, however - congrats on the award! But Gosh Darn! when I post a recipe, 85% of my intent is the photography! ;)

Cindy said...

Congrats! Love the seven things, especially the weed flower thing!

Farm Girl said...

Well, I for one love learning about you my secret friend. I never knew you didn't like to cook and I didn't know you didn't read recipes. That makes me laugh.

I could see you driving that car.
Well, I for one really enjoyed meeting you today.

Sinbad and I on the Loose said...

Ah, it was so fun to see you wiggle and squirm for over that. My day is now complete. :)

Debbie said...

this was perfect....i only wish it had come from me!!!!

chuck drove a 68 chevelle in h.s, the same color as the picture. i have photo's of it i may try to dig them up and blog about it!!!

it sure was a sweet ride...all souped & i could always hear him coming!!!

Robin said...

T, thanks for not putting my name on the list!
Chevelle, hum, I never owned a 70, but did own a 68 and later a 72! I loved both of them! Never got a ticket until I had my current car, a Saturn! I'm a Chevy man and will never forgive them for dumping the Saturn. I think they are the best ever! Bought ours in 92, and it's still going strong! Aging gracefully! Like me!

Bruce Clark said...

A well deserved award IMHO!

Roan said...

Back in the day, my boyfriend's brother had a new one of your dream cars. I bet he wishes he still had it.

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

I never really learned to drive a stick. My husband keeps asking to teach me, but I value the side of my home too much to go there.

Love your 7. It really is a fun way to get to know each other better. I'm a weed girl too. I have actually hicked a mile into the woods with a shovel to dig up a particularly pretty weed to plant in my garden ;)

wildlifewatcher said...

Hi Texwisgirl, Congratulations! Don't beat yourself up about the lead foot. I had a ball driving fast between Hunt County and Mesquite on 30 every once in awhile and same for little FM back roads from place to place with wide shoulders. Oh well, that was then and this is now here in TN. : )
Have a great day tomorrow!

Michaele said...

Nice to get to know you better. Some surprises, some not so surprising. Never would have guessed you were a speed freak : ) I am with you on the "pass-it-on part". There should be another option like "come-and-get-it".

ellen abbott said...

Oh I'm a stick shift girl too. Every car I have ever owned (or drove - the car I drove as a teen) had a manual transmission up to and including our new truck (relatively speaking, it's 4 years old). When we were at the dealership looking over the package of one they had there, wanting the cheapest truck we could get (only requirements were radio and air conditioning), I noticed that the automatic transmission was an extra $1000. so I asked if we could get manual transmission. He checked and there were 9 available in a fairly large area. It had to be brought to them but we got our truck with a stick shift.

bailey-road.com said...

Nice dream car!
I don't cook either - not since I made Tuna Fu Yung and my husband decided to take over the cooking!

Paula said...

Well, now I know not to expect a comment when I put a recipe on my blog... *sniff* :)
Love those Chevelles.... my pick would be a either a '69 stingray or a '69 or'70 boss mustang!
WOO-HOO!
I learned to drive in my daddy's truck that had a "three on the tree" transmission. Mu Hubby can't even drive one of those! *hehe*

~Kim at Golden Pines~ said...

Congrats on the award, and it was fun to read those 7 things about you. You very rarely talk about yourself, so it was fun to read this about you! I love to drive a stick shift too, as does my husband whose Honda has one. I'm also right there with you on the cooking thing. I invited people over for dinner next weekend and am trying my best to get out of it...But they've not been here in 4 years, and have invited us to their house plenty of times, so I think I'm just going to have to do it....

I do hope you're having a good day!!

My roommate used to have a blue Chevelle, but I don't think it was a 1970...a couple years older. Anyway, we'd zoom back and forth between Madison and the Dells in no time...and she never got a ticket. Looking back, she was very lucky!

I'm with you on passing this on. I've been on the other side and was crushed when I wasn't included in the required number of bloggers to pass it on to.

Fun reading your 7 things though.

Louise said...

That was an interesting read. It's always so much fun, reading about people whose blogs you follow.

I'm with you on the not cooking thing, and kind of on the weeds are just as good as flowers (except for daylilies.) My twist on that is weeds are just as good as grass, because I HATE lawncare.

thesedaysofmine.com said...

Sorry to be so late commenting today (we're gettin ready for a hurricane!), but I smiled when I saw the pic of the Chevelle. I had a '69 just about that color and LOVED it! But, no, I never got a ticket!
You are SWEET, Theresa, and so deserving of this award!

Betsy from Tennessee said...

Hi There, Congrats for the sweet award... I am one who doesn't participate in this kind of stuff... I did for awhile --until it just got bigger and bigger. Found out that it's just not anything I am interested in... I just don't have time.... BUT--I like to read interesting facts about blog friends.

I grew up driving a straight shift... AND--my 1968 Camaro was 5 speed... But--these days, I just go with the automatic. I got tickets and got caught speeding no matter what I was driving... ha ha
Hugs,
Betsy

Rural Revival said...

5 speed Honda here too...I like to feel the road!

And I don't like to cook but I like to eat. Sort of leaves me in a bit of a predicament wouldn't you say?

Good thing I like to bake. Good for stomach...not my waist. Ha! : )

Weeds are merely plants growing in the wrong area, 'tis all, so they can be beautiful, they have a purpose, unless they are parasitic & killing wonderful old growth. Love Posie

Congrats on your award! Nice to know a little more about you! My last manual transmission was an Acura Integra with a spoiler. My son was furious because I bought the same car he did only in a different color. He didn't think he could show his face around town with his yucky mother driving the same vehicle. Oy vey! While I do like the power and speed, I can't handle it in stop-and-go traffic.

Hi there - well done on the award!

Have you really had 40 days over 100 this summer?! That’s worse than here! I think I'd be blogging from inside the freezer box if that was the case - I assume that’s what wireless access is for!!

Cheers - Stewart M

You're some gal, just go easy on those speeding fines although in a State the size of yours it is totally understandable.

I often do pass awards on just do not stipulate that others must do so.

A well deserve award. Love your sense of humor. I got the award also but haven't blogged on it. It means I would have to come up with something without photos inspiring me. Something I don't do well. I also hate to cook, but have to for my hubby. I had a boy friend in late 70's who drove the SS. I almost traded when little datsun pick-up for it. Good thing I didn't as my 1st motorcycle I crashed. I love the garden and the healthy food it produces but hate all the work. I cannot spell worth a hoot. Somedays don't even try correct it. Well I will have to get my thinking cap on soon to blog mine. Oooo what will I reveal. Have a good one.

Congrats on ANOTHER award! I can see you as a speed demon, like myself.

Just so you know I am devastated...I am devastated to know you won't leave comments on recipe posts. AWK! I rely on you to comment. If you don't, nobody else will! Don't make me smack you instead of my mama!
