Pretty little guy. I don't think I've ever seen one.
I need a better bird book. I have several visitors that I can't identify. I did identify the logger headed shrikes that have been hanging around.
I am constantly amazed at the diversity of birds you have - and they all seem to mingle together and have such great 'expressions'!
Oh joy! What a lovely Dickcissal! I would love to see one of these beauties. Great sighting for you. Wonderful photographs!

Isn't so much fun seeing a new bird feeding with our regulars! We now have a blue jay coming to one of our feeders, the cardinals and the other birds stay clear while it eats. Thank for sharing! August from Minnesota
Sweet little beauty !Reminds of Yellowhammer (gulsparv) which we have here.
he is a pretty little thing. I think the other birds should let him into the club!
I like how they cocked their head to the side. And that made me wonder... how on earth are you able to get such good pictures of birds on the ground like that with all the dogs you have?
What a pretty little guy!
I saw one of these early in the summer and didn't know what it was...so cute...
He is quite striking
I am sure he realizes he landed in Paradise. He just checked Birdie Trip Advisor and set his GPS for Run-A-Round Ranch and landed his feathery self at a 5 star resort! Dang Tex! Why can't I ever get here before there are 456785 million comments. You pop up on my Google Reader and I have you on my Favorites and I still can't make the first 4011 comments!
What a cutie...love the bright yellow. All the pics of the birdies are great!
Good eye! I would have probably thought he was a finch.(I'm going to have to move a feeder or two closer to my house, I am finding I have to use binoculars to see details of the visiting birds) Fantastic shots!

Years ago I used to listen to tapes called "birding by ear", and they were the songs of pretty much every bird in North America. I remember that the Dickcissal says, "Dick dick dick ciss ciss ciss" when it sings. So you might keep an ear out for him!
Wonderful birds! They blend in with the grass!
even the cardinal's look a lil confused!!must be male, he is so darn pretty!!
What a discovery! So pretty.
What a perky little fellow -- and you gotta' love the name!
He's a cutie, and I think you could use some color!! I know I could, it's gray, dreary and raining again and I wish it was in your direction!

With that yellow mask he's like a birdie superhero.

Your birds are so lucky to have you as their friend...and you are so lucky to have such wonderful variety to photograph. Love that tilted head!

Nice capture!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
I hope you got to hear him sing...they sing and sing and sing out at the strip pits...just the happiest little bird I ever did see.
I like him! How cheerful in our brown world of late!
PS...I have pictures of them on both my blogs...the better ones are probably on my PIcs & Pieces one..BUT--did you go to the All About Birds site on here...they have the song and you can hear it if you didn't get to in real life.

I have never heard of this kind of bird or seen one before. Thanks for posting the pix!
Hi Texwisgirl, I have never seen one before. Boy are they cute. They do look sparrow-like and also a tiny bit like a Carolina Wren without the yellow breast area. Have the best Friday tomorrow!
Wonderful phtos! I love his interesting colors also!
If it didn't have the yellow, it could easily pass for a sparrow. Not sure I've ever seen one.
I love seeing new birds!I have spotted those just once or twice around here... usually in the winter. Great pictures!
A new one for me, too. What bright yellow markings!
What a pretty bird! We had one in the yard yesterday but it was much paler--must have been a female, a duller version of the male.Your place in the country looks wonderful!Kay
Congrats on the new bird! Nice pics of the beauty.
What an alert and perky little chap. I love him! I have never seen one, and barely ever heard of one. Thanks for introducing him to us. I wonder if he will stay?
I've never seen one of these, either. He really stands out in the crowd.
