More Texas gates and fences

Some of these images are from end of October and early November.  Lots of gates and fences around these parts...
I'm sure these folks thought the metal longhorn skulls would be great gate adornments.

Until the birds decided they make perfect nesting sites, that is.

King of the llamas, apparently.

I rather like this ultra rustic look.

Yes, this shot was taken the week of Halloween (which explains the pumpkins and the spider crawling on the gate).

Really like this tree.

Speaking of trees, here's a shot of one of my favorites in the 'hood.

Nifty looking fence(s) and fence gates. The long horn gate looks imposing. The stone fence and wooden gate has character.

Really nice gates and fences. The M in that first one (with the long horns) looks like a pair of blue jeans...or is that just me?

The gates are pretty little things. The first one, is it a pair of jeans next the Longhorn? And, I agree with you, the one with the tree, is superb.

Deb said...

love all of them....so Texas...

Here, I was looking at the Barking Ranch and wondering why they had a silhouette of a llama...
I love that tree in the gate, too!

What a great series of gate shots! I also like the rustic look best. Happy holidays!

I have to look a long time at the second last photo. I was going to say you photograph the tree right in the middle of the oval frame. Then I realise if the tree was there, it was at the middle of the road. Then I knew, It was part of the gate.

Merry Christmas.

Great fences! Bar-King would be a cool name for a dog ranch if there were such a thing. :)

I love your comment. Bud just had to stick that worthless sign up on the deck when Ridgie was here visiting from Seattle. Mattie is missing, her 3 sons and hubby, Gene’s wife, and Ridgie’s 2 sons and wife...it was the best I could do for a mini 1 - 1/2 reunion. Sometimes I think it is really nice when we are writing back and forth day after day to be able to put a face to the names. Now, to your gates and fences. They are sososo different from the ones here in VA. And I have my only family I correspond with out there in Texas. Maybe one day I will get there other than in Dallas Fort Worth Airport...ugh! Take care and have a happy CHristmas. genie from so far away

In the first picture I like the way they have trimmed the long drive so neatly. I pay attention to detail.

wildlifewatcher said...

Hi Texwisgirl, In the old days I understand that these gate and driveway posts were functional in helping cowboys with cattle and also used as advertising for the ranch businesses. Some are unique and nice others personal and funky. All different. I like the birds nesting. Have a great day tomorrow!

My favorite for this week is the stone and wattle(perhaps?)adorned with that simple, rustic star. Always enjoy when a bit of humor comes through as in the llama fencing. Am beginning to thik you have an endless supply of subjects for Friday Fences. My Kentucky options are not so varied.

Happy Holidays and all the best in 2012.

I love the rustic gate too. At the "Bar King" ranch, I would think they were raiding dogs instead of llamas...bar king....barking...woof woof. Get it? Nevermind. I think I am having an off day
