Farewell 2011!

A post for Shadow Shot Sunday

Reflections

These photos may only bring glee to me.  These shots are taken from the end of our deck, looking across the pond.  I'm thrilled to report that the bits of rainfall we've received this month (3/4 inch here; an inch there) have been coming steadily enough to rejuvenate a portion of our pond that had gone dry this fall.  Although it is still very low, just having water back in this section is wonderful to see!
To have the edge of that gorgeous orange plastic barricade fencing touching water again is a blessing.
And to have the water reach all the way over to my normally-under-water tire barrier is fantastic.
Keep it coming, Mother Nature!  :)

More Texas Fences for Friday

Bumping up my fences post to Thursday this week to join in on Jan's link-up when she opens it on Thursday afternoon.  (I'm just messing with your mind now, aren't I?)

More of the oodles of fences and gates 'round these parts.

When good gate ideas go bad - the yoke spins around so the ranch name is reversed.
One of my all-time favorites.  Disguising a plain metal gate by attaching wooden fence pieces to make it appear more natural.
Love, love, love it!

Another rather ornate metal cut-out.
On this one, the yoke's swinging the right way.
Too elaborate for my tastes.
This place has a lot of fencing.

And they must spend a lot of time and money maintaining it.
Can't resist one more of my favorite!  Keep your bells and whistles, your grand entrances and filigree - I'm all about
the simple and natural.  Be still my plain-Jane heart...

The Hooded Mergansers again

This time in a bit brighter light.  Still hard to catch 'em up close, though.  Shy as can be!

Waxwings for WBW

These are not the best photos of Cedar Waxwings, by any means.  They are, however, the best I've ever been able to snap.  These birds migrate through NE Texas fleetingly and always seem to arrive at Run*A*Round on overcast, gray days.  This year, for the first time, I was able to catch a few in intermittent sunlight.

Belly up to the bar, boys!

Post-Christmas Barn Charm

A pretty place perched on the precipice of population (a couple of barns at the edge of town).  :)

A post for Weekend Reflections

It's been a while since I've linked in to Weekend Reflections.  On a recent trip into Dallas, I managed to shoot a few photos from my car, while driving on the overpass circling downtown at about 55 mph.  (Yes, I know, don't try this at home - or away from home!  At least be sure to stay in your own lane!)

If you are traveling this weekend (even if it's just across town or across the city), please be careful.  Arrive safely, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy the holiday season!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

More Texas gates and fences

Some of these images are from end of October and early November.  Lots of gates and fences around these parts...
I'm sure these folks thought the metal longhorn skulls would be great gate adornments.

Until the birds decided they make perfect nesting sites, that is.

King of the llamas, apparently.

I rather like this ultra rustic look.

Yes, this shot was taken the week of Halloween (which explains the pumpkins and the spider crawling on the gate).

Really like this tree.

Speaking of trees, here's a shot of one of my favorites in the 'hood.

I met my first blogger pal today!

Remember the old milk can I discovered in the receding pond this fall?  Well, a fellow blogger (who happens to live outside of the Dallas area like I do) expressed interest in it.  I retrieved the can from the mud, and we agreed to meet up the next time she came into 'my town'.

Today I met Mom of M&Ms from Simply Life Photographs.  I was her first in-person blogger connect, too!  She's as down-to-earth and sweet as ever (must be that native Midwestern blood!)
Yup, that's a port-o-potty in the background - just keeping it real!
I also got to meet Dad of M&Ms as well as the two Ms!  (Girls, you may be Ms, but to me you'll always be 'Booth' and 'Bones'!)  What a fun family!
The milk can's loaded into the van, ready to head to its new life as porch decor.
So an old, unearthed, patina-covered milk can brought two bloggers together from neighboring counties for a few hugs and photos in a parking lot.  I do love living in Blogland.  Mom of M&Ms, I'm glad you're my neighbor!  :)

Forgotten but not gone

I drive past this place every time I go into town.  I finally stopped to take a few photos.

How about a little vintage treatment for the old place?

FYI, that's a leaf stuck to the fence - not a brown dog on the steps.

Sisters

You've already seen one of these shots in the header collage above, but thought I'd give the Catahoula sisters their own post.  Louise and Thelma enjoying a sunrise...

(or maybe they're just admiring that fine new fence!)  :)
