Dome Home

I saw this place on a recent drive.  Of course, I'd love to see inside the place, just to compare how their rooms are arranged (as opposed to our 9-sided nonagon home).
Only after I parked the vehicle to take photos did I notice the rather large hole in the roof, right off one of the skylights.
Hated to see that.  Otherwise it looks in pretty good shape!

Cool looking house, minus the hole of course:@)

The ceilings must be pretty cool. I'm guessing they are open (with the sky lights).

I've always wanted to check out the inside of a round house too!

Sad about the hole. I'm guessing it's abandoned?

Very Cool. To bad about the hole. It is so nice to see a different shaped house my imagination takes me into the inside too. B

Looks lovely! I can't shake the feeling that it should be made of gingerbread.

Roan said...

Too bad about the hole. That is a really cool house. And, it even has a fence in front of it. ;)

Snapper II said...

Why was there a hole in the roof?
was there a fire?

Darcie (My Modern Country) said...

With the hole, it's probably empty...I don't think I could have resisted taking a peek or two through the windows!

edenhills said...

It does look really nice in that lovely wooded setting. Too bad about the hole in the roof.

Karen said...

Now that's really cool. Would love to see the inside.

Sandra said...

the hole in the roof makes me wonder if anyone lives in it. it really is pretty, i like it. and love the setting with the trees and of course a fence in front of it.. wonder if a tree limb fell through it. i vote you go knock on the door and ask for a tour so we can see inside it toooooo

Montanagirl said...

I really like this. So picturesque!

Jill said...

I also wonder if it's vacant. So interesting! I also think you should go knock on the door...

Margie said...

Hmmm, and it looks fairly new. Very different.

oh no, i wonder what happened?

Unique, i wonder it is abandoned !

Love the places you find to show us. :)

Paula said...

Wow, that's neat! It does kinda make you want to peek in the windows.... *giggle*
(It's not illegal if you're just wanting to check out the floorpaln and not the people, is it? *haha*)

Really unique! I'd love to see the interior.

Cool house, maybe someone will take interest in it and fix her up! Hope so, it won't last long with that hole in the roof for sure.

troutbirder said...

We have round schools and barns but I've yet to see a house. Still I always think about the psychological problems of the farm dog who lived in a round barn. He couldn't find a corner to...... :)

Rohrerbot said...

I want that home!!! I've always love dome homes. I wonder what it looks like from the inside. Probably similiar to a hobbit hole:)

~mel said...

I'm with you - I'd love to see what that looks like inside. Sometimes Xray vision would be nice:)

Nicely designed home. Shame to see it deterioate!

What a pretty place. I too would be curious as to how it is arranged inside.

I think that is a really interesting house. I would like to see inside too. I like the look of the property too.

Larry Ostby said...

Interesting house. With that unauthorized hole in the roof, and if the property isn't posted, I'd go take a look. ;)

stardust said...

Very interesting architecture. It looks to have top lights on four directions and on the uppermost. I’m curious what the inside is like, too, and wonder what the roof is made of.

Michelle Renee said...

Neat house...it makes me want an inside tour. :)

Furry Bottoms said...

I wonder if anyone was still living there, with the hole in the roof.

holdingmoments said...

What a great looking place.
Looks a bit like an observatory.

Sinbad and I on the Loose said...

I don't see a pack of hounds, a couple of troublesome horses, a dried up pond with plastic orange fencing, tree rats hanging from bird feeders or stuffed groundhogs sporting cool shades so my guess is no one lives there.

Nancy @ A Rural Journal said...

I'd love the see the inside as well. Sad about the roof.

don said...

I can see why it caught your attention. I wonder if a falling branch may have done the damage. It does look to be in good shape otherwise. Nice post.

Jan n Jer said...

That is a really charming home...I wonder if one of those big branches fell off n made the hole!!!!

Pat Tillett said...

It looks an amazing building! Too sad about the hole in the roof. It must be abandonded...

What a cool house!

Evelyn S. said...

So that hole means it's uninhabited right now? A meteor, perhaps? ;-) Fascinating shape, though.

Debbie said...

i love skylights and all the natural light they provide.

you guys are pretty creative there in texas...your homes, your gates, everything is bigger in texas!!

polkadotpeticoat said...

It looks so sweet nestled in the trees and brush....

KAT said...

nice front door entry too. I noticed the rusty barb wire fencing looks amazing to my eyes
...and don't even get me started on the tree

What a neat looking house. It doesn't look vacant but I'm wondering if it is since it has that hole in the roof.

Tammy said...

Very interesting looking place. Nice photos too!

James said...

Very cool! I like it and the big tree really adds to the picture.

Rita said...

Oh, I'd LOVE to see the inside of that place! I hope the hole isn't all the way through and isn't letting water in. :( That is one cool house!

pattisjarrett said...

When dating, my then-to-be husband mentioned building a home like that. Without the hole in the roof, though. Meteor? Hungry squirrel?

Kerin said...

Hmmm.. makes one wonder.
Maybe you can knock on the door and see if anyone is living there.
If not... you could take a peek inside.
Satisfy your curiousity :)

Interesting looking house! I'd be curious to see the inside, too! Hope you have a fun weekend!

That's very cool! Or it was cool at one time. It appears to be uninhabited - I'm guessing. It would have to be a little weird at first to live in a round house.

A szkoda, bo całkiem ładny dom. Pozdrawiam

Elizabeth Grimes said...

Oh, that is a neat find! Too bad about the hole.

Andrew Fulton said...

And here's me thinking you had the only designer home in your part of the world... the dome looks great but I would have the nonagon any day..

It's fu'/@*g freezing over here at the moment... -7c this morning.

Barbara said...

What a cool home! It reminds me of an old English cottage for some reason. We actually have friends who have a round home. The staircase curves up the wall.

Sharon said...

Obviously there is no one there, you maybe could have gone and taken a peek, I know you aren't supposed to, but this old jane would have. :-)

Mom of M&Ms said...

i want to buy that place....

Sall's Country Life said...

Nice House! Love the setting too! Maybe the hole is the entrance for aliens? Just a thought.

Shaun_ShutterBug said...

I would be so temped to go have a peek around inside. Unless you are barking mad, i doubt anyone will still be living there.
What a lovely house though.

Laura Delegal - Leroy Photography said...

I had to laugh. Since we live along the Gulf Coast and have been through many hurricanes, my husband is convinced he will one day build a "dome home" (yeah, that's what he calls it). It will be like an igloo so the will will go around it nicely. Not me, he can live by himself. :)

Sherry said...

I like it! I could live there I think.

Cheryl @ The Farmer's Daughter said...

What an interesting house! I'd love to see the inside of it.

Bob Bushell said...

Wow, it is so beautiful, even though the hole.

Nancy Reinke said...

Unusual home. I like it. The red door is cool. A peek inside would be fun. Thanks for sharing.

Barb said...

Are these "round" houses common in your area of TX? I can't say I knew that you live in an octagonal house. Now I want to see how YOUR rooms are arranged!

Fjällripan said...

It is really beautiful! But I guess no one lives there, considering the holes in the roof...? But it dont really looks like an abended house either...well, have a great weekend :)

SweetMarie said...

It looks really cool and I would love to see the inside. I'm with Sandra...knock at the door and get some pics of the inside. :) No one could turn you away!

A very cool structure! Too bad about the hole. Sometimes I feel that way about my head, but somehow I continue to function. :) Thanks for sharing.

Candy C. said...

It looks like a house for Hobbits! I wonder if anyone is living there with that big hole?

eileeninmd said...

It is a neat looking house. Are people living in the house with a hole in the roof? That could could be the norm nowadays. I have a similiar looking house down the street from me. Great pic's! Have a wonderful weekend!

Country Mouse Studio said...

So it's abandoned? It must have been a challenge to build.

Sarah said...

Great looking house - there is a house that looks a lot like this near our house but it is not as well taken care of (minus of course, the hole in the roof).

Robin said...

T, cool looking house. Is it abandoned? Must have got a widow maker from that tree.
