Runnin' the roads
Living up to his name, the Greater Roadrunner exhibits his specialty.
Just because I feel bad about these zoomed in and cropped shots, I'm going to repeat some old photos of a closer encounter from a few years ago, taken through the sliding glass doors as he peered in from the deck.

How cool! I've never seen a road runner before (other than the cartoon of course, lol!). Are they really fast?
Love how he/she is casually walking down the road on their way to..somewhere! I have never saw one upclose, great shots.

What a funny looking bird... lol. Love him looking in the window... I owned a Plymouth Roadrunner in 1972, it was a 1969 with a 383, four on the floor and a 3/4 racing cam... it was a hot ride!
i have never seen a real live roadrunner, and glad you showed the up close shots. he is so cute. i love the meep meep from the show... next can we see wiley coyote?

I'm loving that little road runner. My cousin ~ when he was living yet in California .. had one that came every day to his deck for a hand out of raw hamburger.

I've never seen one, but maybe it's because they move so fast! You have captured one (or two) and now I am satisfied that they do indeed exist. :-)

He is soooo cute, I've only seen one on your blog.
I have never seen a road runner before - how cool is that. On cartoons I always feel a little mad at him and feel sorry for the coyote! Just a little. lol

I love these guys and rarely see them here. I had one a few years ago that would come up on the deck and peek in the glass. It was such fun.

What a great catch.. My Mom used to have a one legged roadrunner that would visit every morning.. I can't remember what she fed it. But for over a year it was there every morning..

Hey! No way....for some reason, (because I'm mostly ignorant:)I only thought Road Runners to live around this area. Those shots made me smile. Nice! Love these birds....they make me laugh, but they are also quick to nab any food:) Fun!

Very nice images! I want a good shot of one of those Roadrunners so badly. I was not into photography when I lived in New Mexico, and we sure don't have any out here in Florida.
After watching the cartoon for years it's nice to be reminded that they really are real. :)

Well I've heard the name of course but never seen the real thing, a delightful and quite odd looking bird... but don't tell it I said odd ;-)

Super species. One I never got to see on our trip to Texas in 2003.
We have road runners up here too and I love watching them. I don't think its possible to get an up close and personal shot unless you are stalking through a window.

The last picture cracked me up! I just love roadrunners. We had a family in our woods, we could hear the mom calling her babies, but never saw the babies. Must be good at camouflaging!

Before we got a Border Collie to guard our house we had a roadrunner that would visit inside the fenced yard. It is really amazing when you realize how big these birds really are!

This is one bird I long to photograph. They are so interesting and colorful. We used to see one on our property 30 years ago but alas, it disappeared a few years after we moved to the property. There are still a few in the area but nowhere near as many as there used to be. I have to search them out to see them from afar now.
I love your photos, especially the close-ups from your porch! I will get to Arizona to bird sometime in the near future where I expect to get some shots of these unique birds.

Cool shots. I've only seen a Roadrunner one time and it was running fast so no photos.
Oh my, he is/she is soooooo cool! I have only seen them a couple of times and from a great distance. I think these along with Pheasants are 2 that I really, really want another chance to view one day~
