Just a day on the pond

Mallard drake, Hooded Merganser pair and Great Blue Heron.

Uh oh. A 'third wheel' merganser to contend with.

A little power boat evasive action.

 No drama in solitude.

There's always something to see on a pond isn't there? Loving that it's full again! Let's hope this summer isn't another dry one!

How wonderful...except for the Heron. He's beautiful but eats a lot of our fish and has almost completely eaten our supply of bull frogs. I get kind aggravated when I see a big pond fish half down his gullet!

You had a real party down on the pond! Looked like the 2 "boys" weren't too eager to have the lady join them! Nice photos!

Gotta love the female Hooded Merganser. She has some style.

Don't you wonder what they think about as they calmly float around their world? Wonder what I'll have for dinner tonight? That junior better not be up to no good? Quarles, if you quack one more time I'm going to scream?

Again, lucky you! We've been looking at all water sources we can find around here for birds, but not having much luck. If only your pond were closer. I think it's still a little early around here.

pattisjarrett said...

They are seriously like little power boats. I got some pix of a mallard family this week. Most of the wee ones were calmly swimming near Mama, but there were one or two (had to be boys) zipping around them in circles. I'll be posting them this coming week sometime.

Rita said...

Those darn stray males--LOL!
You have such a great view with your personal pond. I'd be sitting out on the porch all the time. :)

Just taking a few minutes today to answer a few comments...and check out the commenters' latest. Thanks for your comments on both the fence post and on the birds in my yard, and for expressing your concern over my eye. I had some drops left over from Jan so I started treating immediately and it is helping, but I will still need to see the opthamologist to make sure all is well. Lovely pond photos, Teresa!
