A blackbird shies at the much bigger whistling ducks.
A crow eyes the flock under the birdfeeder tree.
Another cautiously approaches.
You can see the ducks are not that much larger than a crow.
And with any flock or herd, there's always jockeying for position.
They just make me laugh! I LOVE these ducks!

Wow so many ducks!!! Very nice pictures!
♥Crissi♥
They are just so darn cute with the orange divided up between bill, legs and feet. Quite the wing spread too . . . where the white shows as they fly up a bit to move to a new place on the old tree. Delightful . . .
I didn't realize they were so petite! Goodness but you must be going through a lot of bird feed!
what a lovely haven for them all and those ducks look quite comical
Nie widziałam jeszcze tych kaczek. SĄ śliczne i wspaniałą serię zdjęć im zrobiłaś. Pozdrawiam cieplutko. *** I have not seen these ducks. Are beautiful and a wonderful series of pictures they did. Yours warm.
These ducks are really lovely! It's so strange seeing them in trees. I see those webbed feet and their typical duck shape and just so odd. I keep thinking they're scared of a mouse or something!
They are so funny! I'd sit outside watching them all day I think :-)
I love them too - their chopping and changing antics on their tree roost are gorgeous. Beaut pics Theresa, also the reflections in the second photo are just lovely :D)
They are so so beautiful! I love those salmon colored bills and feet, makes them look very unique.
They are just incredibly beautiful!! And, fun looking and cute and those feet!! Oh, my. I have fallen in love with them, too, T! blessings ~ t.
You seem to have a lot of beautiful wildlife on your ranch, great photo;s
Peter.
Ahh, the cute little pink eraser ducks, they are definitly one of my favorites now! I just love all the roosting pictures, looks like they are taking turns on a diving board. :)
They make me smile every time I see them
Love those ducks and what delightful images you got of them this visit. I had to giggle when I see the images of them landing, those wings upright, landing softly just in the right spot...great entry. have a wonderful day Theresa~
Those are the coolest Ducks I've ever seen. And I have only seen them on your blog! Thank you for sharing.
Always strikes me funny to see ducks in trees. Great shots.
a couple of the ones in the middle look like they are being made to wak the plank. LOL
they are really cool looking and it makes me happy to see green grass and water in the pond with reflections behind them. i love the ones of them standing on the dead tree. amazing.
In a way I'm glad we don't get visited by these guys. I would spend too much of my time watching them!
Those sure are crazy looking ducks!
Great shots!
Love the ones of them in the tree.
The ad at the bottom of the page was for some show on A&E called "Duck Dynasty!" LOL!!
I love seeing the tree-roosting ducks, they are so cool looking!!
Ha! They are funny, and I love the roosting pictures.
I love the shots of them in the trees, I can totally see why you love them.
They are adorable, Theresa.. I'd be watching them ALL of the time!!!!! AND --they really aren't 'that' big, are they???? Love seeing them next to that crow... Thanks!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
I just love them....they are so cute....I love the way they line up on the tree limb......
Thank you so much for sharing these pictures...I have never seen these before and I am intriqued by them....
How cute is that! If they were at my place, I'd be sitting out there all day.
Lynne said it best....love them all lined up on the branch.
Maybe they were in town for an AFLAC convention.
Beautiful flock and shots.
Costas
Tex they sure make a fashion statement! Love their pink bills '>
I have never seen such sweet ducks. If only I had those beautiful legs!
I am completely intrigued by these creatures! NEVER seen anything like them till your photographs. They are SOOOO pretty!
Just amazes me that those ducks hang out in the trees! Go figure. Cool looking critters though - love those beaks!
Nice photos...that is one big crow...love those ducks!
oh they are so cute! i love how that crow just gets right in there and starts eating with them...he's thinking "if you can't beat em, join em"!
You must have so much fun watching these ducks. I love their orange bills and legs. Their whistles are delightful, too. Terrific photographs!
Every time I see them in a row it makes me think of my husband....oh and come on how can you hate ironing....its fabulous......last night we shoveled 3 feet of snow off the roof of the house....I slept like a baby!
I love their pink legs.
They are so cute. I love the shots of them on the tree limb.
It's interesting how the black on their wings make them look like a predator bird when they spread them. Your shots are so entertaining.
The whole tree roosting routine is so funny! I just can't help but laugh about ducks in trees! That and their little "soldier" appearance. Such cool shots!
These are just gorgeous pics! I didn't realize how small these ducks are. They make me smile too. They're just so different and cute looking. :)
These shots are fantastic. These are the cutest duck evers. Love the coloring.
The color of their wings when they flap them is so fascinating; actually, the whole "color scheme" is fascinating. They look painted.
They are so pretty with their pink bills and legs. marvelous pictures!
I can see why you love them. I'm enjoying them, too, and might never have "met" them without your blog.
They have such an attractive color scheme. Great looking ducks. I like your series which vividly shows us their jockeying for the best place.
I love these! Texas seems to have birds I've never seen before. At least these kind of ducks. So pretty and I love them in that tree. I gotta tour Texas before I die. I've only been across the top panhandle and it was SO flat. I thought I'd seen flat in North Dakota but that part of Texas beat it. Well I've been to Houston but landing and taking off in an airport doesn't cut it. :)
I have to agree with you. They look like they would be a blast to have around.
They are so pretty. It looks like they're lining up to jump off the high dive into the pond, lol!
Never seen ducks in trees before!
I love the close up shots on the trees!
Our neighbourhood ducks look veritably bland compared to these fancy footed and lipsticked friends.
Thank you as ever for sharing the delights from your pocket of the world T.
x
I wish these lovely ducks would visit me. Your photos are wonderful, such a nice variety. The crow is great too. I get a couple on my deck every day lately but if those whistlers ever landed you'd be hearing me hooting all the way to Texas :)
LOL, they looks like they march to their own drum.
I've never seen whislting ducks. These photo's are awesome!! Thank you for sharing such wonderful things around your home. :)
Photos 6& 7 crack me up!! These ducks are just too funny.
I love your ducks, too! Well worth the price of admission!!! [bags of bird seed!]
Cheers from Cottage Country!
They really are slightly odd looking so that they make you laugh, but are still so cute. Maybe they think they are crows...perching in the trees like they do--LOL! ;) I'd be watching them all the time. Unique!! And entertaining. :)
You could post nothing but pictures of these guys and I would enjoy it each and every time. They are so amazing. The pink feet just crack me up. I am so glad they are there for awhile. Your grass is so pretty and green.
Such a large flock, and what colourful legs and beaks, Great photos
LOVE that shot by the pond - lovely reflections!
The 'out on a limb' shots are wonderful.

Wonderful ducks to see and many thanks for adding the crow to show the size of them.
Doh! you live in Texas so I bet your crows are the size of a big dog lol.
They're quite beautiful though!! Boom & Gary of The Vermilon River, Canada.
Wow - They're so cute! You certainly live in an interesting place getting to see these ones every now and then. I love their colors.
How really COOL to have these ducks in your yard. They are so darn cute! I would have 100's of photos of them if they showed up here.

Great photos today! Every time I see those web footed ducks roosting or sitting in a tree I get tickled!
They do look pretty funny all lined up on the tree.
I love them as well as you. Pretty and good climbers, lol.
Ducks in a tree. That is weird and I love it too. I am thinking of you when I take photos of moss and ferns.
I enjoy seeing these ducks. They are colourful and somewhat comical, and I love them.
These are circus ducks. They walk on trees.
Greetings,
Filip
Hope this isn't a duplicate, I didn't get the message that my comment was saved. Ugh. We enjoy those ducks in the tree!
I adore those sweet things! I want some to hang out in my trees. Such peculiar creatures the way they do that. Will you send some over please? Margie

They certainly make themselves at home. I would love to hear them.
Nice shots! They look so cute all lined up on a branch.
Now, this is a LOT of ducks. So stinkin' cute, no wonder you love 'em.
I laughed at your "they taste like bacon" regarding your black eyed peas. I can't believe that you live in Texas and had never had black eyes before. My goodness, woman, you need to have them at LEAST once a month just to keep your soul alive!! hahhhaaa...you are such a cutie.
AMazing to see Ducks in Trees...not something Ive seen before!! Excellent post
I love those pink beaks and feet!
I love these ducks. They look different and have different behaviors from others. I guess they do come by Tucson every now and again, but I haven't seen any yet. Hope they hang around you for awhile. Like these pics:)
Those are the most comical ducks I have ever seen!
How nice of them to pose so nicely on the old tree for you :)
Did I miss it, did you ever say why they call them whistling ducks?
Love these guys! I see them here in the summer. They sort of look like stuffed animals to me. Glad all the birds were getting along.
I just love those ducks! So cute!
Hi TexWisGirl, Send some of their brothers and sisters my way. I love 'em but have never seen a single one ever. They are lovely and comical and wonderful! They also behave a bit like the Wood Ducks with their tree perching habits. Have an excellent day tomorrow!
Those ducks are really honoring you with their presence! Beautiful images!
They sure stick together! I love those pink/red legs.
They are just the prettiest ducks! And so comical too...the one in the eleventh shot who is trying to land, with his feet outstretched just cracked me up!
The ducks are so cute. I can imagine that they are quite entertaining!
Blessings,
Lorilee
I just love them! They are very small seeing them beside the crow. It just doesn't seem like they could fly and land in a tree like that! lol That is funny! Do they knock some down when they land?
Beautiful, I was hoping you would show these birds again. It is hilarious the way they roost along the branches of that dead tree. I would love to hear them whistling, do you have any clips?
Actually Camille is my daughter. She is my youngest and I have a son in college.
These are a fantastic group of photos, Theresa! I love the shot of the one coming in for a landing! And that crow is determined to get in on the action!
I had to laugh at all the ducks lined up on the tree branch. Great photos and wonderful post!
These ducks do entertain.
Such an artist they are.
I love their colorful feet and beaks...
I think I would spend so much time watching them I'd get nothing else done.
They are amazing. I can't get my mind around a duck in a tree. Such beautiful faces. I bet they make that food disappear quickly
I love the Ducks! I have never seen them before and the color combination is awsome!
Only mother Nature can take colors that would not normally go together and make it work!
Great shots!
Tom
They are so cute. I just love the way they are all lined up on that tree..
These ducks are amazing in all sorts of ways. They do look like they are lined up on a diving board
before taking the plunge.The black
birds acceptance of these visiters
is pretty awesome too!
Hi there - I have to say I really like these ducks!
Cheers - Stewart M
Such a sweet and quirky little line up. :)
Look at all your fantastic bird feeders! No wonder the birds like to hang out at your house. :)
xo Catherine
They're just so cute -- that one where they're lined up on the tree limb looks like they're playing follow-the-leader. But the next pictures show that being leader is a temporary job! They make me smile too.
Please tell your friends to come visit us- you're having too much fun with these little guys!
I'd watch them all day!
Those pink feet get me every time! LOVE 'em!
too cute... I especial noted the green grass... we're under snow yet
What a great series of ducks!! Love their colours.
You live in the most wonderful place.... birds, fences, barnage, dogs a plenty... so much country!! sigh... :)
Wait a minute, we don't see ducks hanging out in trees over here!!! How cool!!
Oh my...perching in that tree like that, they remind me of a bunch of vultures
The more I learn about these cute little ducks, the more I like them. Cool pics of them all lined up...I wish we had them here!!!!!!!
Looks like the circus came to town!
They really are loveable with their orange bills, black nellies and PINK legs. The legs appear extra long for ducks. Certainly very entertaining to have around.
Yes, I know I have word verification in everything. Did I make a boo-boo? O also have four languages on my computer and sometimes I miss seeing which one I am writing in.
Thank you for your kind thoughts on my recent loss.
Like the shots on the old dead tree.
They are just gorgeous- please send a few this way- I want to see them up close!
OOOooooooh!!!! what a terrific invasion!! i LOVE the picture with them all lined up...and sitting still...oh so pretty...on the dead tree branch!!
Those are some cute ducks--never seen that before. You must have some good food worthy of a stop.
I am so glad to know what these ducks are called! We have a few at our place and thought they were so cute! I think they have a nest close to our stock tank, they have been hanging out there for a couple of weeks. GREAT photos!
Very nice photos.
Regards and best wishes
Oh, I am glad they make you laugh, too...they give me the giggles. And don't you love the ones you caught in the process of landing on the tree...
Aw...love their little salmon colored feet. :-)
Black-bellied Whistling Ducks are really cool and obviously fun to watch Theresa. You sure have gotten great photos of their antics. The shots with the Crows are great to see also ;-)
That is so awesome.
