Such fun today! I loved the look on the duck's face - she was apparently quite happy sitting there with all the birds around her...and the crow gave you quite a look too! Loved these photos today!
it was great to finally get to see a cowbird. Their plumage in a certain light sure looks good and the duck's beak! They were having a great time, one and all
Your HOODIES are Gorgeous .... and I love the shot with the duck "low to the ground" - with all of those other birds surrounding him. Super capture!
Lot's of fun.
Ślicznie wyglądała kaczka wśród ptaków i szkoda, że ją opuściły. Pozdrawiam cieplutko.*** She looked cute duck among birds and a shame that it had left. Yours warm.
I adore red wing blackbirds. Cowbirds not so much. They are related to cuckoos, and they don't build their own nests, as you may know. They drop their eggs in somebody else's nest, and the bsaby cowbird, who is bigger than the baby almost-anything-else, pushes the babies that belong there, out, and the poor parent bird has to feed this big faker.I like crows, they're my totem animal. They appeal to my sense of mystery. And the duck! The duck looks happy no matter what. I see ya, Mister D!
It's busy at your place....great photos
Theresa those Mergansers are just the coolest ducks. CH saw a female Red-Winged yesterday so I am thinking her fella is somewhere. I hear Mr. FeeBee FeeBee as I am typing :) Man you have lots of birds there!
Excellent birdie photos today ~ especially the duck at the end. Cute!xo Catherine
Strange, you don't normally see a lot of ducks hanging out at the bird feeder. ;)
Thought of you when I was trying to get photos of gulls and pelicans in Gulf Shores. Funny how your blog friends travel with you even when you are without access to their blogs. ;)
In the second duck picture, the duck looks like it's smiling. Love it. Around here the doves are everywhere, and the bow-tailed grackles are totally oblivious to the rest of the world - the males just wander around doing that "Look at me, baby, I'm a big bird" thing. And the females seem to be answering "Put that silly thing away."
Great series of bird shots! The little ducks on top are absolutely cute.
I hate it when the Blackbirds and Cowbirds take over the feeders, I usually chase them away so my regulars can eat first! What a cute smile that little pink eraser duck has on his face!
Ha ha, that duck looks a little fat and lazy ;-)
That duck in the black birds is too cute!
Love the red-winged ones. Very tasteful!
With all those Blackbirds around you must go through a lot of bird food. Yikes!
is the whistling duck being shunned by the other birds? how do you know the crow is American? LOLlove the first two HORDES shots. wow, the details on their wings and the colors. really super shots.
The birds know where they ara well off ...and thats at your ranch ...great photo storyPeter
I don't think the birds were playing well with the little duck. I think your ranch must be a very pleasant place to live.
These are just super pictures! I especially love the duck looking like he's wanting to join the fun. He doesn't look awfully bright, does he? :-)
LOL..the duck looks so happy amongst it's feathered friends. You have such a mix of birds to view...lucky you!
MacDonalds ... lol.
You always have such a variety! :) Great shots.
I always think that ducks sound as if they're laughing at me. This one actually seems to have a smile on its face. :)
Fine shots! You have such diversity at your place!!
I really like the Brown headed cowbird. Really unique bird.
Can't get enough of those whistling ducks! That one photo looks like he's smiling!
So many! Great shots! I especially like the one on the stump. :)
Love all your birds and the duck is priceless! Never thought of ducks having expressive faces, but this one does!! Fun, wonderful captures, Theresa! Great way to start my day! Hope you have a good one -- all of you!Sylvia
Spring must have come to Texas! So many birds! So much fun!
Your pond seems to be quite an attraction.Love the shots of the the duck surrounded by all those blackbirds.
I love red-winged blackbirds. My dad told me I was not a real photographer until I got a photo of one. I searched high and low around friend's farms who said they always had them...no luck. I had given up when one day I happened to look out my front window and guess what was in my own yard?? Yep...a red-winged blackbird.I guess that proves there really is no place like home!!
Is that duck sitting on an egg? It didn't look like it had any intention of moving. When I get a change to surf around, I always stop at your blog first because the most interesting birds flock to your place.
those are some great shots especially of the crow.
What a lovely series of bird shots!
No one captures nature like you.....lovely!
Dearest Theresa,Those hooded Mergansers are beautiful. All of your photos are excellent again and with a nice 'story'!Love to you,Mariette

The duck smiles when having his picture taken. How nice.
So many birds! Spring has been very good hasn't it?
Great Pictures once again. Thanks for the tip about the rice, went to try it on my camera but didn't need to ... guess just being in the house for a day and not in a wet pocket did the trick. Now I will try to get pics of the new bull calf today .........
Texas birding! It's the best. They seem to love the RunARound Ranch! (I think that crow thinks he owns it though -- I'd watch out for him if I were you ;>)

Great batch of pics! I really love the crow ones. I was telling my daughter about your cool ducks and showing them to her yesterday. She was impressed.
Excellent quantity of birds in your area.....I've been looking for the Mergansers this year and haven't seen them. I know they are around because people report them, but we just haven't met up yet:) Looks like you are having a lot of guests for awhile:)
You do have some lovely ducks in your area. I could look at those all day. Fun to see all the other birds too. The sun is shining and I have just filled up all my feeders. With the windows open I can hear my feathered friends out there having a field day. It's time to get the camera out I think :)
The little Hooded Merganser are cute but the the duck steals the show!
You have so many friends....I swear those Black-Bellied whistlers probably know you by now. oh, Sarah and Lorelei have friends now, too. They live in a subdivision in Indianapolis, and have a mallard with eggs right out by their front door! Jeremy worked putting up a new screen door yesterday for a couple hours and she did not mind at all.
Wonderful faces. That last one is such a cutie.
Hahahaha oh my gush these just made me smile. Yeah I hope these duck didn't think she is one of them, lol! Happy weekdays! You are invited to post your water photos here Water World Wednesday

Beautiful shots. I have come to love all the birds. We have a feeder off our deck and we get lots of cowbirds and blackbirds of all types. Unfortunately we don't get ducks. Ha. But I can tune in to the Runaround Ranch for my daily dose of ducks.
The duck looks like it's smiling. You have a bonanza of birds just now - so glad you have the pond filled again.
You have a VERY busy backyard! Love the beautiful Hooded Mergansers. The lone Whistling duck looks very content amid all its feathered friends. That cutie even looks like it is smiling in one of your wonderful photographs ... priceless!
I love that shot that looks like that duck is smiling at the camera. My daughter always said, " Blackbirds must be very social-able birds, and they always let lots of other birds around."Hey did the tornadoes get close to you? I hope you are fine. :)
Theresa, Are you ok? there's tornadoes moving thru texas right now... i've been texting my brother that works in Plano & he's ok, but one passed just north & one south of him... be careful!

Hi TexWisGirl, Love the ducks! Great pictures. My thoughts and prayers are with Lancaster, Arlington, Dallas and the N.E. TX region tonight after the twisters there. Have a good day tomorrow and I hope your area stays safe!
What fun pictures of all the birds, but the duck is my favorite; actually looks like it is smiling in the one image.Have been hearing about the storms and tornadoes in your state today and hope everyone is safe and secure at your place.

The duck is SMILING. I did not know ducks smiled. Awesome!
Great series of photos. You certainly have a variety of birds around you.
There's never a dull moment in your yard. I just love seeing all your visitors...even if it's a brown headed cowbird (my least favorite bird). :)
The duck stole the show! They are so cute!!
"My" mallard was lying down to eat, too! We also have a bevy of cowbirds. No redwings lately, though. Good shot of the one flying in next to the birdbath/feeder.
Oh...they are so many...a lot, I would say!....LOLhave a nice day Theresa! Kisses.
That duck looks like its smirking haha.

You got a lot of brown-headed cowbirds in that mix. We saw a couple of pairs the other day.
I love when the duck enters the images, so, so sweet!
Looks like the duck lost all of it's friends.
You have so many friends who come by and drop in! Lucky you!
I love the heads on the Mergansers! Your Whistling Duck is similar to our Plumed Whistling duck (without the cream coloured feathers). Looks like the pond is a hive of Spring bird activity... lovely!
Awwwww! These are great pictures! I especially love the ones of the cute lil' duck~ he looks like he's smiling!!
Pretty peaceful little duck surrounded by the hoards of bully birds. I bet,if he was wondering where they all went, he was also thinking thank goodness they are gone. Don't get me wrong I love my bully birds, but other birds don't ... just sayin'. Great shots ...Andrea @ From The Sol
looks like Mrs. Merganser needs to do something with her hair....she's got the frizzies
