Barred owls perched pondside at dusk one day.

Light was fading fast, and I started trying other settings on the camera, including flash.

I just love your owl photos! We have a big what I call Hoot Owl that visits us every night. He sits in the oak tree in the backyard calling conversing with another one way down in the woods. Love listening to them as long as he leaves my chickens along. :)

Great shots of the owls!! I'd love to come across an owl or two one day. I must say, since I started linking with WBW in October last year, I have been disovering new birds everywhere and find myself identifying & reading so much information. I have come across birds I never imagined seeing, like the terns in this weeks post (my post next week will include a few more).
As always I love visiting your blog :)

Beautiful birds! We have a great horned owl, but I can't get close enough to him to get his picture. We also had a tiny little white owl for a while, but haven't seen him in a few weeks.
I meant to ask you last week, we have seen two huge birds a couple of times, black with white tips and white throat and orange/yellow beak. I looked them up and I think they are called Mexican Eagles. I haven't seen them around here before, have you?

You are awesome. You must know this....you. are. awesome! I LOVE Barred Owls. You are very lucky to have such a special place that owls can say, "I'm stopping here." The other day I had a snake in midtown stop by my garden and it was success. If an owl ever stops by El Presidio, it will be my greatest honor to have it call our place home. Thank you for sharing!

Jo's World said...

Add me to these many who love owls, but I have rarely seen them over the years. Mostly up at the top of a tall, tall tree, nothing so close as you were able to get.

Great pics!

Wow, beautiful owls! I like the glowing eyes in your flash shots. I never see owls. I hear them sometimes, but never get to see them.

Tombstone Livestock said...

How much did you have to pay these Owl "models" to come pose for this many pictures. My luck would have been as soon as I took picture all I would have to show for it is a bunch of tail feathers retreating to the sky. LOL. I have proof, have pictures of just dog's tail, or half of a lamb.

Once again beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing.

Rita said...

How lucky you were to have such lovely visitors. Owls have always been my favorite bird but I rarely get to see them in the wild.

I've heard them in the woods next door, late in the evening, but have never seen them. Great pics.

Maura @ Lilac Lane Cottage said...

How neat is that! And to see two of them is even better. Funny you should post this now...hubby and i saw what I think was a young Horned Owl on the side of the road on Sunday...we think it got blown out of the nest with the high winds. It was NOT going to let us catch it so I hope it survived the night. Great photo's Theresa! :)
