If Polly was a crow, she'd want a cracker...

 Or a chip.

And then a dip.

I always knew crows were intelligent. Pick up a few crackers, carry them like love letters to the nearest water source and soften them up a bit. Do they cook as well?

Linda said...

What great photos! Crows are so smart...and fun to watch! I loved the "dip"!

Cute! Years ago, our neighbor put out dry food for her dogs. We'd watch the birds steal the food, and then bring it to our bird bath to dip it.

That’s a great set of behaviour pictures! I like crows and ravens - they are such smart birds.

I thought the crow was named, Brandon Lee.

On another note, how that bird would've loved some ketchup for a nice 'mater based soup.

i got a giggle from this. cute!! i wish for two, thanks! crow have always intrigued me. in english class i always enjoyed "the raven" by edgar allan poe. such a great writer. (:

Crows. You gotta love them for their sense of funny and their intelligence. Those crackers would have been pretty dry and throat clogging had there not been some dunking going on! Great series of pictures Tex!

DJan said...

They are so smart. In back of the YMCA where I work out, somebody throws away old pizza every Friday, and the crows take big hunks of it out of the garbage and haul it away. Probably do the same thing with it: find a water source to soften it up. Great pictures!

Gail said...

I never heard anyone call a crow stupid. These just proved how smart they are. Great photos.

A cracker, that's a good one. Nice series.

You are . . .
so creative.

Delightful . . .

I love it, it looks like what my grandmother used to do with her crackers, she would dunk them in her coffee.

That is how my husband eats his donuts. My mom used to (probably still does) crumble saltines in a glass and pour milk over them, eating it up like cereal. I think that is a very east texas thing to do. She was born in Bryan's Mill, just a blip on the map. =)

That is one smart crow - dipping that cracker into water like that...blessings from Wisconsin

I've grown to like crows quite a bit, I like how their feathers shine.

I 'borrowed' your butterfly feeding idea and tweaked it for the birds. I slice up overripe bananas and put them on the feeders, lots of traffic :-)

Love the double cracker photograph! Crows really are intelligent birds. They muddy up our bird baths all the time with their dipping technique, though not with crackers. Fantastic series!

Love this .. clearly tho Ms/Mr Crow's mama never taught the dont bite off more than you can chew rule... in this case dont grab more than you can hold .. and then the dunking!

Yup, my parrot does the same thing with her food. Dips it and makes a lovely gross soup out of her water dish!

Ah, dipping the crackers . . . very clever bird :)

Faye said...

First, wish my hair was still that shiny black crow color! And agree with other commenters--they do seem so intelligent, especially that "polly" with three in its mouth--multitasking?

Chet loves to sit behind the babygate and watch crows in the front yard. They are so cheeky!

Red said...

You've got the crows pegged right. They eat anything and anything hard they soak in water. Great shots of Mr. crow and his activities.
I thought you sent all crows to us for the summer?

Furry Bottoms said...

Crows are frightfully clever. First time I've heard of them dipping! :)

Debbie said...

That's funny. Wonder how long it took them to figure that out.

It's softening it up in the water! Give that crow a cup of tea!

pattisjarrett said...

Maybe I should throw my crackers out in the yard. I'd rather find those in the birdbath than what the crows usually leave in there. ick

Blimey, the crow equivalent to dunking a biscuit in it's tea - haaaaaaaaa, too cool!

Did he finish eating it all? It must have been too dry. That is so funny.

Springman said...

Did you ever...and I know this sounds a little mean...put peanut butter on a piece of bread and feed it to your dog? It's kind of funny to watch them cope with that sticky stuff stuck to the roof of their mouth.
These crow shots are hysterical. Never underestimate the intelligence of the black bird!

Sinbad and I on the Loose said...

Not many birds would think to soften up the cracker by dunking it. This is why I admire crows so much.

I cannot believe you got all of those captures without them flying away. I think Mr. Crow is dipping his cracker in some soup just like I love to do. This is a wonderful series. I never see them up close lie this. They are always flying overhead genie
