I always knew crows were intelligent. Pick up a few crackers, carry them like love letters to the nearest water source and soften them up a bit. Do they cook as well?
What great photos! Crows are so smart...and fun to watch! I loved the "dip"!
Cute! Years ago, our neighbor put out dry food for her dogs. We'd watch the birds steal the food, and then bring it to our bird bath to dip it.
That’s a great set of behaviour pictures! I like crows and ravens - they are such smart birds.Cheers - Stewart M - Australia
I thought the crow was named, Brandon Lee. On another note, how that bird would've loved some ketchup for a nice 'mater based soup.
i got a giggle from this. cute!! i wish for two, thanks! crow have always intrigued me. in english class i always enjoyed "the raven" by edgar allan poe. such a great writer. (:
Fun series. Who would have thought crows were that smart.
This is one of my favorite series. So adorable!
You have spoiled your feathered friends. A chip soaker.......man o man?!
Oh, that's too cute! :)
a delightful post!ooh, what a cute little guy!
LOL i really am, that silly one in the middle is trying to hog all the crackers. and i am thinking the RAR serves up TOUGH crackers since they have to DUNK them. love thisone
Crows. You gotta love them for their sense of funny and their intelligence. Those crackers would have been pretty dry and throat clogging had there not been some dunking going on! Great series of pictures Tex!
They are so smart. In back of the YMCA where I work out, somebody throws away old pizza every Friday, and the crows take big hunks of it out of the garbage and haul it away. Probably do the same thing with it: find a water source to soften it up. Great pictures!
I never heard anyone call a crow stupid. These just proved how smart they are. Great photos.
A cracker, that's a good one. Nice series.
'Doncha' just love crows/ravens?? They supply endless entertainment for those who like to watch (moi)...
You are . . .so creative. Delightful . . .
I love it, it looks like what my grandmother used to do with her crackers, she would dunk them in her coffee.
That is how my husband eats his donuts. My mom used to (probably still does) crumble saltines in a glass and pour milk over them, eating it up like cereal. I think that is a very east texas thing to do. She was born in Bryan's Mill, just a blip on the map. =)
That is one smart crow - dipping that cracker into water like that...blessings from Wisconsin
Wow, great series of pictures today! :-)
Great series, love it!The crows are so smart.
I've grown to like crows quite a bit, I like how their feathers shine. I 'borrowed' your butterfly feeding idea and tweaked it for the birds. I slice up overripe bananas and put them on the feeders, lots of traffic :-)
That is a smart guy!
Oh my- that is one crafty crow! Have a great week Theresa!
Thanks for this. So fun!
What an intelligent bird. Nice shots.
Love the double cracker photograph! Crows really are intelligent birds. They muddy up our bird baths all the time with their dipping technique, though not with crackers. Fantastic series!
I see he likes his crackers dunked!
Crows are amazing. Love your pictures!
Love this .. clearly tho Ms/Mr Crow's mama never taught the dont bite off more than you can chew rule... in this case dont grab more than you can hold .. and then the dunking!
Yup, my parrot does the same thing with her food. Dips it and makes a lovely gross soup out of her water dish!
Amazing series!! I loved the "dip"!
Love it when you have a "story series." At least this guy didn't eat his crackers in bed. ;)
What a dip.Is it hot chocolate?
What a great set of photos. I knew crows were smart, but it surprised me to see them softening their crackers in the bird bath.
What? No cheese? :)A great series. I love to watch the crows.
I love these! Great shots!
Dang, that crow is a dunker! Wonder what he'd do with a donut -- or an Oreo.... hmm..suddenly I'm hungry for something with my coffee!
Wonderful, interesting photo story. I saw this video a long time ago: http://youtu.be/onA2ve3EDWk I love how it recognizes the intelligence of crows and possibly of other animals as well.
crow are one of my favorites to watchgreat pictures of a smarty pants crow there-KAT-
Ah, dipping the crackers . . . very clever bird :)
First, wish my hair was still that shiny black crow color! And agree with other commenters--they do seem so intelligent, especially that "polly" with three in its mouth--multitasking?Chet loves to sit behind the babygate and watch crows in the front yard. They are so cheeky!
You've got the crows pegged right. They eat anything and anything hard they soak in water. Great shots of Mr. crow and his activities. I thought you sent all crows to us for the summer?
Crows are frightfully clever. First time I've heard of them dipping! :)
sleek and beautiful but clearly has a preference on enjoying their crackers!!i prefer mine dipped also, perhaps you should add some soup to your buffet!!
That's funny. Wonder how long it took them to figure that out.
Is "he" smart or what? Beautiful series.
LOL! Love the one with 2 or 3 in its beak! And dipping them in the water is too funny. Great photos!
Clever birdies, aren't they? Love the dipping shot! They've obviously been watching their people friends! They do have big mouths/beaks, too -- just like the people friends!!
I love crows! And yours are quite intelligent :)xo, misha
Crows are so smart! This fellow has real style. He not only gets a cracker, he dunks it to soften it up! :-)A great series.
Oh yeah, lets dip our crackers in the birdbath.TASTY.You crack me up Theresa.I am glad you appreciate the crows, because I like them too. Some people are annoyed by them. How so?
Oh, my--crows are just amazing. Maybe you should have put out some milk or coffee!
T, well at least it had the good sense to dunk it's crackers. I saw one yesterday doing the exact same thing in the neighbours roof gutter!
Fine series of crow / Brita
Hi TexWisGirl, I so enjoy your series of shots of these Crows today! Funny and interesting. Just shows how smart these Crows really can be. Have a very fine day today and a nice one tomorrow, too!
That looks like one self satisfied crow
I love the one with the two crackers..Delivering the mail :)
That's a smart bird!
These guys are so super smart!
It's softening it up in the water! Give that crow a cup of tea!
Maybe I should throw my crackers out in the yard. I'd rather find those in the birdbath than what the crows usually leave in there. ick
Blimey, the crow equivalent to dunking a biscuit in it's tea - haaaaaaaaa, too cool!
Great shots! Lovely to see!Happy World Bird Wednesday!
Did he finish eating it all? It must have been too dry. That is so funny.
Did you ever...and I know this sounds a little mean...put peanut butter on a piece of bread and feed it to your dog? It's kind of funny to watch them cope with that sticky stuff stuck to the roof of their mouth. These crow shots are hysterical. Never underestimate the intelligence of the black bird!
Not many birds would think to soften up the cracker by dunking it. This is why I admire crows so much.
Wow!! This was a great series. So fun and beautiful.Hilda
You could at least give them a cheese dip!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
LOL..chips n dip...that is funny!
That's great...such smart birds!
Around here the bird food of choice is my dogfood!
haha...So she's washing her food before she eats it? What a photostory!
I am always amazed to see how intelligent crows are. A wonderful series of images... you show the whole story so well.
oh these are super!!
Awesome series of shots!!! For me it's like dipping donuts into my coffee. The crow has the right idea:)
I love this series of photos! And I love crows! They are the most wonderful creatures around.
A great series of photos. My neighbor wondered why her bird bath was so very murky - then she discovered the crows were using it in just the way you have photographed yours!
A great photo story, it realy shows how intelligent birds are.Me,i like a cup of tea with my cracker.Peter

Amazing, this photos show oh clever the animals are, fantastic, love it
Yep we have lots of these birds making the bird bath dirty. Hope you had rain, we did. Also a storm that knocked my internet out for several hours.
What fabulous shots.. Who knew Crows were that smart..
Somebody is spoiling them thar crows!
Great series! I never knew they like to dip their chips. Maybe salsa or ranch dip would go good too. LOL! Fun post and I loved the photos.
What a great group of captures T! Makes me thnk of dunking Oreos in milk or biscuits in tea. So dang cute,
LOL! This is the real first laugh I've had today and it's badly needed! :) That crow in the last several pics is so funny and smart! You got some really awesomw pics Theresa!
Thanks for the laugh Tex I needed that. Great shots. B
Wow, I didn't realise crows were so smart. Imagine them soaking their crackers first.
Dearest Theresa,Polly surely got her master's degree at restaurant serving. She knows how to get a gourmet dinner!Lovely and humorous photos.Love to you,Mariette
Too funny that she's wetting the crackers! I was waiting for the "what, no cheese???" pic:@)
Smart crow! I think we would all need a little water to wash all that salt down!
Does she dip tobacco too?
I cannot believe you got all of those captures without them flying away. I think Mr. Crow is dipping his cracker in some soup just like I love to do. This is a wonderful series. I never see them up close lie this. They are always flying overhead genie
That is absolutely hilarious! Thanks for the good laugh!
What a hilarious series! Maybe you should have served up some soup with those crackers! I love the Crow with 2 cracker in its mouth! Thanks for the laugh, I needed that today!
Oh my gosh! He's a "dunker". This cracked me up! :D
I love all blackbirds, ravens, crows, whatever is flying around out there. They are really very clever and I could watch them all day. Thanks for the dunker!Jo
What a delightful series! I always enjoy coming here and seeing what's up on the ranch. :)
I just love these birds. How funny that they can get two crackers at a time. I like to wash my crackers down with beer. Just sayin'
Love birds. They are some of the most interesting creatures to watch. Love the show on this post.
Dunking his cracker in the water like dunking a donut in coffee! Too cute! You got some great pictures!
Very nice sequence of shots.
Really smart indeed.Loved your post!Shantana
Such clever birds. The Grackles in our backyard will dip things in the birdbath too. Nice series of photos. You caught all the action!
Good Lord shes a dunker...this reminds me of my dad - he made a special landing "pad" for a flock of crows and he would specifically feed them his leftover little gourmet meals that he would make...comes to find out that he had a pet crow when he was a boy!
Wondeful shots, apparently he likes to wash them down with a nice bit of water (which you also provided).
Beautiful picture series you run. Wishing you a good day. Hanne Bente / hbt.finus.dk
clever bird there, and i like the short DOF series.
Aha!!! Clever!!! The photos, Theresa, are superb!HugsBShell
Wow! It just goings like tale... Excellent pictures and u well followed the Crows :)
Wonderfull fotos craws, best regard from Belgium
Fantastic series! That was very clever done of the crown!:)
Smart as a whip. Soggy chips- yuck!~:)
This is amazing! Fantastic sequence.
Wonderful sequence, Theresa! Was she the only one of the flock smart enough to realize that soaking would make more edible? or perhaps tastier?
This is the funnest series of photos I've seen in a while.Really enjoyed your post.
Crows...this year I have the biggest crows I have ever seen hanging around my house. They are beginning to dive bomb me when I am outside. They may not live much longer.
Awesome series!! I love the dunking... very clever.
We are forever finding pieces of dog food floating in the horses' waters from the grackles and the ravens! ;~)
what a wonderful serie! love it ♥
Okay...do tell. Do you use a hide? How do you get such wonderful photos all the time? These are over the top!
These are some of the loveliest crow shots that I have come across.
OMG, what a character. I love crows. They are so smart and I swear they know we know it. Great series. I think if we never took pictures on anything but crows we would still come up with new stuff each time. Thank, that was fun.Andrea @ FromThe Sol
Polly the crow likes her crackers like I do...dipped in soup and left until they are soggy - not crunchy! It takes patience but, oh so worth it!
An amazing series Theresa! Super images of a very interesting behavior!
Great picture series,fantastic!
Crows are something else. Great documentation of their intelligence!
