A pair of black-bellied whistling ducks

Hunkered down under the bird feeder tree - often alternating eating and watching.

And later on, finally at rest.
 Or maybe not.

Wild things don't dare let their guard down totally...ever. It's a harsh world out there, even for such cute things as black bellied whistling ducks.

We don't have black bellied whistling ducks here so your neat pictures caught my eye in a hurry. They look to be quite large as far as ducks are concerned?

Ducks are often seen in the water, but their movement on the ground is more fun to see. Your photos show that they look most beautiful on the green grass and their standing pose is charming.

Paula said...

Like the new picture of you on your sidebar. You're almost as cute as the Whistling ducks. lol

Just what I wanted! A whole blog devoted to the Black Bellied Whistling Ducks. What do they Whistle by the way? Any song we might know? Like "Its not easy bein' a Duck!" Or maybe "Duck inside my Cottage Door" How about "You're a Ducky Sweetheart"?

I might have to move to Texas . . .

OK! You've posted these little guys often enough that I've finally gotten the inspiration to crochet an afghan in their colors!!! I just love the colors on these birds and think they would make an awesome afghan! Now I just need to find the right design to show off the blocks of colors, just as their colors show them off. Thanks! Keep posting pictures of these little guys.

I watched the Travel Channel and love ANTHONY BOURDAIN: NO RESERVATIONS: and he just went through fixing duck to eat. All of his shows are interesting but this was interesting to me because we tried to fix Donald Duck and he turned out to be a tough old bird and we never went through the process again.
