The turtle maternity game

We get a lot of red-eared sliders climbing up the banks of the pond to lay their eggs in the shaded area of the yard. Baron, our black lab, often locates them and barks the alert until I go wrestle him away so they can continue with their maternity ward.

Yes, dear lady, I will give you some privacy...
as soon as I can wrangle this one back into the house.
Yes, you, Baron!
Dreaming of his next turtle encounter, I'm sure.

A few years ago, I happened to catch a turtle, "making" a nest. My little nephew was visiting at the time. He made me promise to watch for baby turtles, but I never saw any!
Happy Saturday!

You're right, the dog home, let the turtle is calm at that moment. Yours.

Dearest Theresa,

Wow, that expression on Baron's face says it all! Guess you are right with the under title, knowing him too well. We've seen those big turtles around here often, digging and than depositing their eggs, lots of eggs but they not all make it to turtle stage...
Love to you and a happy Pentecost Sunday!

You're lucky... yours a cool turtles. The ones I find in my yard, or crossing the roads, are Snappers. I worry about my dogs and the Snappers. My Maggie May thinks she should approach and play with anything.

Sweet, endearing images of the maternal ritual. And Baron....he's very handsome [but that one image of him turning to face the camera...does he look guilty, or what?] It's like his eyes are saying "It wasn't ME!"

thanks for leaving such a positive and encouraging comment in my bird photo blog!!! Much appreciated.

Haha, we have similar issues with our dogs. Lately, it's been a rather large toad that visits our patio in the evenings. Every night it's a battle, for a stupid ugly toad. :/ I admire you, because it's the right thing to do.

Dogs love turtle eggs!!! I don't know what it is about it all...the smell? Because it's disgusting! Last year in a Panama, the crew had to talk to a farmer about leashing up his dogs because they were eating eggs from several sea turtles nests!!! Poor Baron:(
