Hip roof, that is... Technically, a hip barn, not a hip roof.

I love that roof style...didn't know what it was called though. Thanks for the description! This is such a classic view!

Red barns are my faovrite...no matter the roof line. I have seen plenty of that color in Wisconsin!

I like this style barn better than the plain 4 walled ones-

I didn't know that was called a hip roof. I learn something everyday :)

A hip barn is where all the cool cows hang out to smoke and drink, oh, sorry, different kind of 'hip' ;-)

A fine shot of this barn and interesting clarification as to what a "hip" in barn is all about.

LOL... You guys make me laugh because now when I go on vacation, I look for barns along the way. I have seen some beautiful barns lately.

This one looks to be in great shape. Hip barn... reminds me of the Huey Lewis song Hip To Be Square!

So if there was an earthquake would it do the hippy hippy shake?

EG CameraGirl said...

Red barn! Barns have so many different shapes but you can still tell most of them are barns.

Chatty Crone said...

You know what - you have just about every type - size and color of barn there in Texas!

Cheryl said...

We see few of these around here. Roofs need to have a steeper pitch to keep the snow from piling up. Love the sound of snow finally sliding off and landing with a KA-LOOF.

Randy said...

That's a big one!

DeniseinVA said...

I've never heard the term hip roof before, now I know and that's a great barn.

That's one sprawling barn. Out rather than up. I like it!

Jeannelle said...

Never see any barns like that around here.

Daniel LaFrance said...

Reminds me of a thresher with the centre drive-through. Both sides would be for livestock.

Then again, it could be used for many applications.

Jo's World said...

Up Nawth, it would have stock on either side, and hay in the "hip", oh, I can't say that. The upper part would be the hay mow!

I like your new pix too, Tex, you look real thoughtful and pretty.

Cheers,
Jo

Katie @Pinke Post said...

Definitely adds character that you don't often see anymore in new buildings!

Linda said...

It's a beautiful barn, but it's not what I think of when I think of "hip roofed." I think of a more rounded look to the roof. Pretty barn, though, no matter what we call it. :)

Margaret said...

I wonder what it is used for. Animals, machinery..

Betsy said...

This is a type of barn I like , also the color red is my favorite color. my niece got married in a barn like this. You could drive through it and they stored some hay on one side.

Beautiful shot! Great capture! Thanks for sharing!

RoeH said...

Reminds me of my uncles farm in Rigby Idaho. Saw a lot of farms and abandoned farms in Oregon. Had I not had so many camera problems, I could have captured them all. I got a few but mostly drive-bys. They either partially come out good or they don't. It's hard when you're not driving.

Candy C. said...

I love that style of barn! We see a lot of them around here built out of metal. :)
