Our oddball Painted Bunting

I saw this odd fellow several times throughout the summer. He never did 'outgrow' the abnormal yellow patch on his belly.
Hiding in the leaves is tough to do when you're this colorful.

Sorry, this is what came to mind when I saw these pics. Quite a stunning bird!

A little painted bunting
went off one day a-hunting.
He finished the deed when he found some seed,
now he's off a-grunting.

Is this truly a bird of Texas or did someone let a "pet" loose? I don't recall ever seeing one the three years we lived in San Antonio.

Mary Howell Cromer said...

It sure is a beauty! Getting ready to journey out. Take care~

i would be so excited if i saw one of these colorful birds in our yard...or woods!!

if they still hang around in the fall...when the leaves turn all the fiery colors...they might be just a little harder to spot...well, except for their blue!!

great shots theresa!! happy sunday!

I don't think we had a painted bunting all summer, although the indigo bunting stayed much longer than usual.

I love this guy. I wonder if he is the "very same" one from a few posts back. How satisfying to know these creatures come back. You probably worked a while to capture him, follow him and to get this story together. Nice job.

DJan said...

How pretty he is! I wish we had birds that colorful around here, Tex. I love the captures, and I noticed the same junco would come back year after year with a growth over his eye. Otherwise I wouldn't have known it was the same one.
