Swarming

It seems I'm running about two to three months behind on my photos. I bumped this post up to be more timely to the season. The hummingbirds have been swarming here for about two weeks. Four feeders are up to accommodate over twenty hummingbirds at any one time (along with a few bees).
One is the loneliest number...

Drink heartily when you can...

Because the bar won't be quiet for long.

Someone suggested I try the slideshow feature in Picasa. With the multitudinous photos I took of these zoomers, I figured I'd bore you to death with a couple of attempts. (Hope they work.)
video

video
Just in case the above 2 loads didn't work (since I can't seem to preview them to check), I'll upload a video I took with my point and shoot from inside the sliding glass doors. You won't see their colors, but you can at least see the beehive of activity on one of the feeders. It's been a non-stop chitterfest, here, during the day.
video

And in case I haven't wasted enough of your day, how about a shot of the photographer perched on the deck?

I'm always amazed at photos of hummingbirds. (I don't have feeders, but when I see them around my flowers, they're so FAST, I'd never get a picture!)
Cute pic of you!

This looks like what we had in our yard last year....this year it has been quite different....only TWO at our feeders at one time. Male and Female.

Sorry it took me so long to respond on your comment that you left. I went through my comment 'spam' folder and found yours...marked it as 'not spam' and now I feel much better.

You KNOW I always enjoy visiting with you, your blogging and photos never cease to amaze me.

They are so tiny and you captured them well!

I'm definitely going to have to get me a couple of those feeders before next summer! It's amazing how many you had there.

Pix at Under the Oaks said...

Very cool! You know I think they say to multiply by three the # of hummers you see and that is close to how many you really have. Something like that. Love the last shot, fun to see you at work!

Sadly, I've taken very few photos this year. I'm hoping that changes soon.

Haha, now I see how you got the shots! Wow, you sure have a lot of hummingbird visitors! We have about 6 or 7 here. So far, only 3 are perched at any given time at one of our two feeders. They are really slamming the sugar juice down right now, getting ready for their long commute ahead. I expect they will disappear up here in another week or two! Ah, it's fun to watch them. I have a feeder hanging off of my office window, so I get to see them regularly.

I love the hummers. In the city I had a huge hummingbird bush that was taller than the eaves of the house. Needless to say, it attracted lots of the little guys. Out at the country house, it came with one but it doesn't get enough sun where it is so it only blooms sparsely.

i don't blame you for not 'facing', i don't either, i just started one now to vote for Landon... i'll close it as soon as this is over! LoL! =)

Linda said...

We put out a hummingbird feeder one year and saw only one visit by one hummer. So many bloggers have posted hummingbird pictures this year that it makes me wonder if there's been an unusually high number of them. Anyway, this beautiful post makes me want to try again with a feeder next year. It was really fun to enjoy yours. :)

Ma'am...How much to you charge for slideshow lessons? I will never master that one, but you surely did. It is neat that you posted hummingbirds considering Buddy was out filling all of our feeders last night. You got some wonderful shots. Hope you are finally getting rain. We are supposed to get it again tomorrow and Bud has a trail run and I have a fiddle festival to go to. Have decided after 10 years to pull out the old violin and go out and have me some fun with it. genie

Love this post and LOVE that shot of your.....very very creatively cool. I have the same issue....sometimes I have to move a more recent post to match the action going on or it won't make sense later on....they are all migrating right now....which is the sign that a cool down will hopefully soon begin. It somehow kind of makes me sad to say good bye to them all...they've been a big part of my summer this year. I still have a couple more weeks left and I'm trying to take it all in before our good bye.

Indeed...fire is something terrible. This year we had a dry winter, Summer was too hot. In this very moment I can hardly breath because the air is carrying smoke in it...and there is nothing one can do. But do you know what? Here most of these fire are no accidents...or nature phenomena. There are evil people that light those fires. Many have economical interests...sometimes they want to destroy the trees so they can build large areas os houses and supermarkets...and so on...

This is very sad...
