He stuck around and posed! We kayaked a river near us, a couple months ago, and one led our way down stream. Every time I would think I could get a shot, he would fly away. About 5 minutes later, we would come up on him again, and off he would go...felt like the chase was on. :)

Blue Herons are amazing birds. I saw somewhere recently (via youtube?) a heron using bait to catch fish. OK it was a green heron

I continue to be so envious of you and your heron photos!!! I wonder if I'll ever get one before I die. :-) (I did capture one roosting in the tree with all the turkey vultures...but that doesn't count because he was so far away.)

Thanks for not giving up on me, TexWis :) Will catch up with a few of your other posts this evening. Highland, huh? Who knew? You did! I'm going to google cattle breeds. Should know them since I was a village kid that grew up in farm country. Holsteins, Ayrshire and Jersey were the three most common. I think there were a few Angus (?) as well.
