So beautiful and dignified! Wonder if he was giving some young whippersnapper a piece of his mind in the second to last shot?

As always, your photos have made my day a little brighter, thank you.

They have such a stately stance... nicely caught!.. xo

Karen said...

Beautiful! We had one stand next to my husband and son while they were fishing once... and when they reeled in their catch, he waited while they unhooked it and flipped it over to him.

Fireblossom said...

Oh honey, you can't always wear blue. I'm taking you shopping!

nene said...

Love watching them lift to fly. They are fun and majestic.

Blue is my favorite color. Probably because I was born of the sky, learned to soar and still dream about it.

Muffy's Marks said...

What a regal bird. Wonderful shots, and he was so willing to pose for you.

Love that bird. I know I've told you before that I am jealous of your resident.

Linda said...

Great shots, Theresa. So...was that a yawn? Or was he scolding someone with a camera? Or maybe just thinking about a fish and the swallowing reflex kicked in?

You've got the Great blue heron in a very typical pose. He did cooperate and open his mouth and with a mouth like that he probably startled you. The heron is one of my favorite birds.

Aren't they the most magnificent birds?

We have them here but they look so gangly and uncoordinated when they go to land in the tops of the pine trees.

He looks like he is saying. "'sup"

ShySongbird said...

I just lost a really long comment :-( :-( I always open your blog again in a new tab so I can start commenting and also read the posts I have missed since my last visit. Normally that works fine but this time I came back to the one with the comment box and for some reason it reloaded the page and I lost everything I had already written. So, apologies but it will be even longer now!

Anyway, I just love your Heron, it is very much like our Grey Heron which is one of my very favourite birds so it was a pleasure to visit on a day when you were showing these lovely photos. It looks like it is yawning in one photo, maybe getting a little bored with all that standing around on a log :-)

I also loved your black and white 'Serene Sunday' post, just gorgeous and they looked so contented. Your cheeky 'varmint' is always fun, I have one in my garden now...no photos yet though. Of course I also enjoyed the wonderful Wednesday Whistlers and the comical Roadrunner...someone ought to put it in a cartoon ;-) The photos of your Barred Owl were really magnificent, what a beautiful creature it is!

Mariette VandenMunckhof-Vedder said...

Dearest Theresa,
How patiently they can stand there... Just one yawn of boredom?
Hugs,
Mariette

I really enjoy the great blue when it is flying ever so slowly seeming to just sort of flap and glide through the air. I remember them from the time that I was growing up. I often watched one that would be wading in the shallow end of the tank.

Very nice photos. I think they look rather impressive.

Liz said...

All wonderful shots but I particularly love the fourth one!

pattisjarrett said...

Nice shots. What did it say to you? Or was it just yawning?
