You caught the shots that showed how these guys got their names. A dear friend tried to explain the "rule of thirds" in photography to me. Is this what you were using in these compositions?
Bird on a wire...!
Great shots!! The flycatchers are one of my favorites, because anything that will eat a bug is a hero in my book! :-)
I love the little claw clinging to the wirethe first 2 shots make it look as if they're serenading each otheryou romantic you :)
I would love to see a scissortail flycatcher. They would be a rare sighting here so for now I am happy to look at yours, thanks for sharing! Have a great weekend!
Another one I've never seen...Great shot T!
Awesome Tex! I would love to see one of these too! There is one that has been around for a week or so, but I haven't had time to go try & see it.
Beautiful bird Tex! I think he is all proud of himself up there with that lovely yellow.
We have Great Northern Flycatchers here but not the Scissor Tail. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy 'seeing' other birds that we don't have around here.
Looking out over his domain.
He's a cutie. You've got a lot of fine looking birds in your part of the country. :-)
He's keeping a keen eye out!! blessings ~ tanna
Nice presentation! One of my favorite birds and also the state bird of Oklahoma, your neighbor to the north of the Red River!
You can definitely see how he got his name! Nice!
o wat mooi, het ziet er bij jullie niet zo somber uit gelukkig.
Good Morning, Great shots! Enjoy your week-end, Anna
i was staring at your header and thinking how much i like it when i realized there was a tab for your husband. i howled with laughter at the blogger enabler. that fits bob to a tee. i was telling him yesterday i saw a camera that i really want. he said buy it i said i have 3 cameras, i don't need it. he said buy it anyway.then i read your about you and i could copy and paste every word into my blog about me and it is identical...except for one point. i read fiction every day of my life, at least 2 or 3 hours a day. other than that and age we are totally alike. and of course WEIGHT, wish i looked like you and not just act like you

They are beautiful birds. Flycatchers are also quite fast and aerobatic. They are fun to watch.
Could be the subject of your next art project??
Your very good at identifying birds...and quick with your camera too! Nice shots
My horses would love to have more fly catching birds around in the summer. You are very good at recognizing types of birds. Thanks for the ID on the bird plate.

Wonderful shots - love the way you've lined them up!
It's a lovely little bird to see...
I haven't seen a scissor tail in ages!! What great shots!!
If we didn't know the bird's name your great shots show us the "scissor tail" for sure.
Really nice shots! I like the single wire and the negative space. Cool looking bird, too! Don't see them around here.
Those are some very cool pics! We don't get that particular bird up our way. Nice to see one.
Now that is composition! love it.
Those are cute! And I'm impressed that you got such great shots at such heights - great job! I'll have some birds to share with you coming up too. :)
Aren't they beautiful?!! And I don't know about your experiences, but when I'm photographing the scissortails...they watch every move I make as they look down on me from the high-wire act of theirs!!
Oh I just clicked on the husband link LOVE it he is tall dark and handsome blog enabler and hero sounds very familiar. HUGS.Love this bird great shots. B
Oh I just read the just me link. Oh my dear that is why we get along we have a lot in common except for the once paying job and horses thing but I do have cows with four legs does that count?I love this new header and knowing more about you. Wish I was clever enough to do a cool header. Hug B

He is quite the handsome youngster!
I love seeing them on the wires and fences around here.
Lovely, the first time I've seen one, great images.
Very coo. Reminds me of our Western Kingbirds. Maybe they're related.
I couldn't believe this bird the first time I saw it. Lovely Texas memories. Thanks!
What a sweet looking little bird. I love your layout of the photos. Happy Weekend
I like the effect of staggering the photos of this little guy T!
So interesting the way you staggered them on the page. Lovely shots of these rather elusive birds. :)
Your effect is lovely wit th bird or birds. Can pass as several or the one.
I remember seeing these as a child. Maybe I was outdoors more then? Have a nice weekend!
Dearest Theresa,Great photos, showing clearly the Flycatcher's scissor tail. Love the diagonal lines.Hugs to you,Mariette
Hi T! Great capture...always nice to see what you are up to...I´m in Norway now...we will start Tyra on hunting trial

So cute!Great pictures!Dimi..
I never seen that one before...beautiful photos of him sitting on the wire :)
He is one happy looking little fella... Hope you are enjoying your weekend.Hugs~
I love the tail on this bird - and the composition and arrangement of photos is beautiful!
Cool shots, he certainly is having a good look around isn't he?
I should check in on of my bird books to see if this bird is related to any bird in this part of Oregon. The body type looks similar to the Purple Martin, but maybe not to the length of the tail.
Wonderful photographs of a beautiful bird!
What a sweet little critter. Good snaps, Tex!
Beautiful captures.Yorkie & Chihuahua
Wouldn't you like to have it's view?
I love Scissor-Tails. Reminds me of my grandparents farm in East Texas. Thanks for bringing back good memories of days gone bye.
It's a beautiful bird, for sure. And you've captured it well in these photos.
Love, love, love the way you laid these out on the page....you're so talented!
Very creative the way you laid these out. I like the ones where his tail is spread out a little. We don't see them around here. At least not that I know of.
Love this bird and your layout!Blessings,Gert
So sweet, and I love the composition of these photos in your post. :-)
Well done! A proud and lovely musician!
This bird looks like he or she would be high maintenance. LOL Such a pretty/handsome bird!
What a handsome bird.
Such a pretty bird. You got some great shots, too.
Nice shots - bird on a wire was the first thought I had when I saw this post. :)
110 comments! I haven't seen this kind of response since 2005! Lucky you!! My Aunt turned 93. As a kid staying at her house one day, I looked up and saw a bird on a telephone wire and told my Aunt that I wondered what he was thinking. She told me that the biord was probably doing the same thing--wondering what I was thinking too!
Love those flycatchers. Not as plentiful in my area as they were 30-40 years ago.

What a pretty bird!
Fabulous shots on the flycatcher :)
He's so lovely! I have some photos similar to this that I took when we lived there and didn't realize then that it was a young scissor-tail. They are such fascinating birds. The first one I ever saw did a loop in front of my car!
Oh, I do love your beautiful Scissor-Tailed Flycatcher. Yet another bird I've never seen, and great photographs, too!
I love watching these birds and they have the sweetest little faces/heads. Love, love, love them.
