Reaching back into the bird bag...

How about more Barred Owl shots from last summer...

Those magnificent legs and talons.

So stinking cute!

I can hardly wait to have them around again this season. They're still here, just not routinely hunting the yard at twilight.

I do love owls. I wish we still had them around here like when I was a kid. I hear them at night fly over, mainly as they screech at me. I never hear their wings but feel them. Does that make sense?
I wish I could get pictures of them like that.

These are great shots! My daughter just sent me a photo of one that her friend took. He spotted it on the ground while building a fence. I don't think it was hurt and not sure if they nest that low, or not? Looked like it was concealed a bit, possibly in some brush, or a wood pile.

Black Jack's Carol said...

Oh, how wonderful to have them around so much of the time. I saw one, once, in a tall tree in Jericho Park. I posted about it here. I went back looking for it but have never seen one again, except in your fine photo :) I did find a Long-Eared Owl once. I posted about that here. But over all, owls continue to be hugely exciting. Definitely not an every day happening. Love your fellow and you did really well with those shots. I especially liked getting a good look at the legs.
