Blue Jays are so common around here that it's easy to take them for granted. But they are an exceptionally beautiful bird, aren't they? Your photos have really captured that, and I've had so much fun admiring Mr. Jay through them.

It is interesting to compare your Blue Jay to our Eurasian Jay. They are both so beautiful. The Eurasian Jay imitates a lot of sounds, like machines, cats or -mine- the buzzard.

Anni said...

Gorgeous!!! They're all super images to be sure, but the 2nd to the last one, with it's crowning feathers and how he's turned to look into the camera...I LOVE it.

Laloofah said...

What wonderful photos of that handsome bluebird! I hope Mrs. Bluebird enjoyed a spa treatment that day as well. (She was probably busy checking out construction sites for their new home this spring!) :-)

We don't have Bluejays around here, but I always enjoyed their beautiful color and talkative ways when I shared their habitats in the past, and find it so interesting that their blue color comes not from any pigment in their feathers (which is brown melanin), but rather by scattering light through cells on the surface of their feather barbs!

Blue boy. that's what they call me cause I'm so lonely since I lost you--Jim Reeves

Or how about Badfinger:

Guess I got what I deserved
Kept you waiting there too long, my love
All that time without a word
Didn't know you'd think that I'd forget or I'd regret
The special love I had for you, my baby blue

All the days became so long
Did you really think, I'd do you wrong?
Dixie, when I let you go
Thought you'd realize that I would know
I would show the special love I have for you, my baby blue
