I {heart} Toads

I think toads are some of the cutest creatures. :)
This one was living under an old rug on our rock patio. I didn't have the heart to throw the rug out and left it for the toad's shelter.
I think that's a black soldier fly larvae to the right of the toad.
These were shot with my cell phone.

I think that the larvae should be very afraid!

Nice picture.

the toad looks like it's had plenty of larvae lunches and I'm kind of surprised the toad has survived long enough to eat them all considering the lovely snakes you have wandering around some times....

When I was a child, we lived beside a pond. I was never afraid of frogs. We loved catching the tiny ones around the foundation of our house! Thanks for bringing back my frog memories, Theresa. Have a good weekend!

Toads a cute; like mesomorphic frogs. I especially like those horned toads, or horned frogs, however they're called.

You caught that little beauty quite well in a picture.

Yikes, that is a big fat Toad, very good to have in our gardens...but not the prettiest looking creature, :) Francine.

Toads!!! My cousins and i used to seek out their company . . we started to call each other "toad nose" - for a while, Toads were our favorite people.

Thanks for reminding me.

I love Toads and frogs. Good for you for leaving this one be. One of the cutest images that I ever shared was of a Tree Frog that I kept in a small earth aquarium overnight a couple of years ago, so that I could release it into a safe area. The next morning the little frog was found sitting on the back of my tiny Box Turtle, that I found as a turtelette. BTW, thank you, what you suggested about comments, totally worked~

When the weather heats up here in COlorado we walk in the early morning hours and I love walking about the double lakes at our local rec center and listening to the bullfrogs. They are a bit shy so we can not get too close but I still love a sweet photo like this one here! My sons are were both afraid of frongs as young boys but two of my three girls are silly like me! I loved the slippery feeling they gave my hands and I loved watching them be free. Sweet post. I love your cool photos!

Horny toads are my favorite. We hardly ever see them anymore though. Which maybe is why the ants seem to be taking over. :(

I'm not sure "cute" is the descriptive word I'd have chosen, but I guess toads do have a certain charm.

I'm not sure I'd call them cute :) ...but when I hear how many bugs they eat, they are welcome in my garden any time!!

Frogs and toads are quite okay for me, but we have them in the fall uitanför house. When it's dark outside and I go for the last time with our dog, often barefoot, well then I do not appreciate stepping on these rather large toads. / Brita

he is really beautiful. i read on a blog somewhere that it is good to make toad houses for them, that they eat 10,000 bugs i forgot in what amount of time. it said take an old clay pot, and turn it on its side and bury half way in dirt, so it is a half cave.... i would have left the rug to except here Jake would for sure try to kill him... i take it your dogs don't bother them.

Have you ever seen toad and frog houses made out of broken pots? We have some clay pots in the back yard that we made into frog houses. Ever so once in a while we will catch a frog sitting in one.

Wayne (Woody), whatever said...

I think that's lunch, regardless of the type of larvae. They are laid back, except when you catch one and they pee on you.

Seeing as though this is the first toad I have encountered, I will reserve my opinion, great shots with the cell phone.

Well... I don't find them cute, but I do like the fact that they eat a lot of pesky insects. We usually have a couple living under the Hostas surrounding our patio. Last year I relocated a snake that ate one for lunch.

I love toads...they are my number one defense against mosquitoes! I just saw one tonight in the crack between our sidewalk and our foundation...he looked squished. There was a snake in there with him and by the time I ran and got my camera, the snake was alone. My son said the toad went UNDER our sidewalk. I wonder what else lives under there!
