What dynamic photos and a beautiful bird. Thanks for posting.

Magnolia Tea said...

Oh yeah, look at that beautiful red head. And amazing acrobatics, too - he must be kin to the one that hangs on my suet feeder. ;)

georgettesullins said...

What a beautiful hat and coat he has! These shots are just gorgeous.

troutbirder said...

He's also brave as he challenges the squirrels on the feeders around here....:)

Joe said...

I can do all of that. Kind'da ;)!!

The bigger birds do find a way to use the little birds' feeder.

Intereating one toe hold technique! They have the silkiest looking bright red heads and you got it perfectly!!

Hanging by a talon! Love it, Tex. He's a talented guy and I'm impressed! :-)

Optimistic Existentialist said...

He's very dexterous!!

Muffy's Marks said...

Again, your photos are stunning. We've had a red-bellied come to our feeders. All fall he would take seed by seed, fly away with it to hide it in a tree. Worse than the squirrels, stocking up for the winter. He was probably here last year, and knew the larder goes empty when we leave for warmer climates. (Other neighbors, stay all winter and provide for the birds)

Donna said...

What an acrobat! Great shots, sweetie!

Laura. M said...

I love these colors ... it's beautiful!

Julia said...

Now there's a nice red head for you to enjoy. Amazing that people try to imitate this bird by dyeing their hair red. lol.

HOOTIN ANNI said...

That last one is absolutely like a trapeze artist!!

Maggid said...

We get these beauties here, too -
Several types of woodpeckers amaze me here, in warmer months -

I am glad when the larger birds figure out how to grab a snack from the feeders . . (either they are poorly designed - or i need to find a collection of feeders . . . (giggle - if you could see my collection you would laugh . . )

It seems, no matter what i do, i am not going to find whistling ducks in my yard - only imaginary ones at story time . . .

Happy Day to YOU!!!

Pallavi said...

He certainly does. Love the red hair ! looks like a cute little punk :)

Inger said...

Well that certainly is a lot better capture of a woodpecker than the one I just posted, but I got some clouds though, to make up for it. Just kidding here, I love this shot of the bird and his clever moves to get to the food. Looks like he was thinking about it first. How to do it.

Goodness, what a contortionist! I've never understood why these are called red-bellied, when it's their head that's red? I did manage to shoot one the other day and was so excited. We hardly ever see woodpeckers!

He is a beautiful boy!! The red-bellied is one of my favorite visitors, always announcing their arrival before I even see them. Love these!

Nancy J said...

Stunning shots, was he just trying to work out the best position, or do they all perform acrobatic poses? So good to see feeders, where I live no need for that even in the middle of our winter. But we make sure bird baths are filled with water in the summer. Cheers, Jean.
