Zim Plays Fence Model

Standing in a dry section of the top of the pond.

You can tell by the rust on the fence panel where the water line is when the pond is FULL.

Giving me attitude.

Checking back to see where Gem is in the front hay pasture.

This goes on for a while...

*sigh*

FINALLY, he deems it is okay to go down to the water.

Proof that a horse will lead himself to the water only when he's damn well ready to drink.
(The welding popped on that pipe fence due to the ground heaving and hoing - for once, I can't blame Zim)

A Little Red Barn from the Old Hood

Sweet little red barn near where we previously lived in the next county over.
The ruralty there is being swallowed by big housing developments (those are big houses, not mountains, on the left and right sides of the photo).

A Buckeye and Bee Break from Winter

These were taken in late September.
Buckeye Butterfly and Bees - Anyone know what these wildflowers are? They grew alongside the pond this fall.
Update: Thanks to Laura at ForestWalkArt - these are Western Ironweed
Correction: Per PortraitsOfWildflowers - this is Marsh Fleabane
Had to Google each to compare and and based on less 'fuzzy' blooms, I'd agree with Marsh Fleabane.
Only one of my Texas Wildflower sites showed the Western Ironweed. None of them showed Marsh Fleabane.
Glad we have good blog readers out there!

See the bee butt?

"Incoming!"
"Outgoing!"

I've got one more round of these beauties saved. I'll pull them out if you need another break in frozen February. :)

A few more gates on the way to town...

You'd think, for as long as I've been posting fence and gate photos, I would have exhausted all of the gates along the 12 mile drive into town. But, nay, I say to you. This is Texas - the land of endless fences and gates, apparently. Here's a few more from the road to 'town' (aka gas station and grocery store) that I've not shared with you before.
This one is simple, but is rarely closed. Usually they just rely on the cattle guard to keep the cattle in without too much regard for keeping people out.

Several of you have remarked before on the irony of a gate that says "Welcome" but remains locked. I like it. :)

I like the patriotism, here.

And then there's the state pride, of course, along with support for "America's Team."

A great gift

I won a giveaway early this month from my friend Donna at Cottage Days & Journeys. It is a desk calendar of Donna's Alaskan mountain photography.

Donna's photography is stunning (visit her blog to see incredible bear and fox photos from their tundra trips!) but I was impressed with the quality of the calendar, too.
I'm not officially reviewing a Snapfish product - just passing along a good thing when I see (and happily receive) one!
And even signed by the photographer! :) Thank you, Ms. Madonna! It is beautiful!
