Tiny Travelers

Small flocks of American Goldfinches have been coming through since mid-December. They are wearing their 'traveling khakis' instead of their bright yellow summer suits.

I have traveling clothes too. Black works well since I tend to splash coffee. Pretty little birds.

I took photos of goldfinches last week two hours north of where I live. I wonder why some travel south and some remain in the north!

I like that - traveling khakis! :-) we still have a few hardy ones up in Vermont. It's amazing how their colors change with the season.

Nice! There haven't been as many goldfinches here this winter. Very few actually. No Red-bellied Woodpeckers, either.

Two goldfinches were at my feeder in early Nov. and I couldn't identify them!We don't see the winter color. These two birds were also singles and i'm used to seeing flocks. at least , that's my excuse.

You're lucky for having American Goldfinches! I've bought a huge bag of thistle seed for them as they usually show up in flocks but not yet... Do you feed them also thistle (niger) seeds?
