Love Crows, fantastic pictures of them, Francine.

Yep, they are very intelligent. A local crow has trained my husband to feed him peanuts. I bet I can't train my husband to feed ME peanuts.

Lynn said...

Fabulous shots! We once saw a documentary showing how Crows grieve the loss of one of their own, and gathered around him or her. One group moved the dead Crow out of harms way. It was an amazing documentary about an amazingly clever and sensitive bird.

...as long as they're not pulling up my corn seedlings.

I recently finished a wonderful book, "MInk River" that had a crow in it who had been taught to speak by a nun and knew all the Psalms. I loved it.

We love crows. We had two in our park that always came up to us for food when it was really cold. They followed us for years and always knew it was us. Have a serene Sunday and enjoy some big easy today.
Best wishes Molly

I've missed your blog this week because of internet issues, but its been great to catch up on what I've missed--You always capture the best crow photos, and whistler, and the one yesterday is probably a favorite!

Enjoy your Sunday!!

I do hate to see crows stealing eggs (or young) from the nests of other birds; but, other than that, I can appreciate their size, beauty, and cleverness. And comicalness, if that's a word. You got some great shots. I like the one where you were able to get front and back views in the same photo.

Anvilcloud said...

There used to be a crow at the cottage who mimicked something like a sound from construction. He's long gone now though, and we just have the regular cawing.

holdingmoments said...

Amazing birds. They've got more intelligence than a lot of people. :-)

Kathy said...

I read a book last year which contained a chapter on crows. They are extremely intelligent animals. They actually use tools (small rocks) to open seeds and nuts, and they actually mourn their dead. Isn't that amazing?

They are smart and energetic, and we have some around here. They know us, and if you listen closely, you can tell the difference between their calls depending on which person walks out of the door.

Nice, substantial birds! I was just thinking this morning that my all time favorite Super Bowl commercial was the Nissan Dirty Bird one-too funny:@)

I agree! When I was a child, we had a friendly crow that would perch on our deck. He came again and again (for cat food, I think). I've always liked crows more than magpies.

I had to stop by and say hello, I also signed up to follow your blog. I'm also from Wis (La Crosse area) and since we live in an RV we now call Livingston TX home - so I'm somewhat a TexWis girl myself. Your profile really resonated with me as I sit here barefoot and braless typing to you. I especially liked your description of being an extroverted introvert - that described me to a "T". Nice to meet you and I look forward to reading your blogs.

These black birds - ravens - crows - are brilliant birds. They do everything in "gangs" and are not very nice to the birds around here. I've even seen them gang up on a hawk. So loud!! They scare off the song birds!!

Candy C. said...

I always love seeing your crows and our ravens too! Hubby and I were just commenting today that we haven't noticed them around quite as much since we got the outdoor cats, even though the ravens are bigger than the cats! LOL!!

Furry Bottoms said...

I do think Crows have attitude. Sometimes its funny. Sometimes its cute. And sometimes its downright mean. It depends on how their day is going. They like to steal the squirrel's savings and that annoys me, but mostly, they're good around here. Theys stomp, they hop on one leg, they fly around and peck at our trash bags if we dare leave any showing in the bin.

Mandy Southgate said...

Oh, what spectacular photos! I've not always been a fan of crows (I think any fan of the author Garth Nix will be wary of crows!) but these birds are really beautiful.
