Hi Y'all!

Playin' catch up. The Humans have been on the go all week and they take the computer...I get almost zero time on it when they are working.

We only see the gold finches when they migrate through here. When my Humans lived on the Chesapeake Bay they used to see them during their nesting season. They are so colorful in their breeding plumage.

Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog

I just bought a new feeder and put it on my porch this time. Hopefully I can attract something besides the cowbirds with it. Your finches are such pretty little birds, They look happy to find a free meal.

Sorry about the repeated comment. I think my computer has the hic-cups this morning.

They are so beautiful. It always thrills my soul to see them, but they sure are hard to photograph (without feeders). Love the way they're keeping their eyes on you while they enjoy the food you've put out for them.

There's been a handful of Goldfinches that over-wintered here. Not sure why they don't migrate out with the rest. I think they were young ones. Nice photos!

All the goldfinches must be there because there haven't been many here all winter. They haven't even gone through one small bag of thistle yet.

What a fine collection of goldfinch shots. Some of these birds have brilliant coloring too. None there this time of year, but i hope to have some visit here in the summer.

Farm Girl said...

There is a flock that think I am their food source. Now that I can see them they are quite used to me now. It just cracks me up to see them waiting for me when I feed my chickens. You got such good shots of them.

Sallie (FullTime-Life) said...

Looks like our Oregon goldfinch made the trip in good shape ;>)! (And are still hungry.)

Ms. A said...

Haven't seen these in the yard, but pretty sure this is what we saw last year at the battlegrounds. Hubby just mentioned that we needed to go down there and check out the birds. I'll say we do! My camera has dust on it and hasn't been used in a while. I'm going to need a refresher course.

Tree Hugger - Suzan said...

You have a nice population of golden finches. I keep out the thistle to attack them, but I get mostly sparrows and other small song birds. Occasionally, I'll see one!! Please tell your's to come over my way :-}}

Beth said...

The gold finches are beautiful. We don't see them here till spring.

Nice looking birds. I stopped using Niger thistle seed and just use sunflower chips and pieces. I can't see any difference in traffic.

Maggid said...

aren't they beautiful?

I was once waiting for a bus at the perfect time . . a beautiful - enormous thistle patch was close by and countless birds came for a snack . . they were talking among themselves - it was easy to overhear, even though i couldn't understand . . it made me so happy. i tried to explain to others waiting for the same bus . . but, it didn't resonate with them . . . still, aren't they beautiful????

Raggedy Creations said...

I see the males still have their winter plumage. We call them salad birds when they are here in they summer they are bright yellow.

The light yellow head makes them look delicate but I know they are not. Any wild animal has to be strong to survive.
