Good Fences #4

A couple of fine Texas entrances.

Not sure if that's their initials or their ranch brand - either way, it makes a nice statement!

these gates remind me of a trip I once took to Texas (Kerrville). A customer of mine had his business in Kerrville and they were so appreciative of me bringing them on board as a supplier of miliitary spare parts for the forts and bases in Texas. AM General(South Bend, IN)at that time had introduced as the manufacturer of the HMMV (Hummer) military vehicle. They were so greatful they invited my wife and I to a huge 'shindig' at this multi-millionairs ranch (something 'Star')don't remember. But anyway he had like 1500 acres or so and had invite entertainment the likes of: Willie Nelson, Tina McBride, Sara Maclautin and others. The Ranchers gate had a huge Star in iron cast and a wooden purgola type over hang. It was cool so was the experience. Great times in Texas. Got to Austin and Gillies, etc. Yes Maam, I did. Howdie? impressed with my Texas vernacular?

The second one makes me want to go visit!

Linda at To Behold The Beauty said...

Both gates are very pretty. I'm guessing that the second one is meant to be a brand based on their initials. But I think it would look better in a color more matched to the gate.

You know, I really hadn't thought much about fences (or barns) until coming across your blog, Theresa. Amazing, since I was a village kid in a school where most of my classmates had to do farm chores before taking the bus to school. I realize only the most prosperous farmers in Quebec could afford fancy gates such as you show. There was fencing to keep the livestock contained but the driveways to their homes were mostly open. Just an observation. Always something to think about when reading your blog :)

Beautiful gates!

You've just explained something that I've never understood around here. Some people who move here immediately erect great big gates, which is a bit amusing to locals since there aren't even any fences. I bet that they moved here from ranch-type country where gates are big and beautiful!
