If it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck and sounds like a duck, it just might be a beautiful wood duck.

These beautiful ducks look like they'd easily win a staring contest. Can they blink, or do they just cover their eyes with their wings?

Gail Dixon said...

One of the most beautiful ducks on the planet. I think the female, although muted, is still quite lovely.

Carletta said...

Lovely captures! Janey said a work of art. She's right, like a beautiful piece of abstract art with an eye. :)
I've never seen one and around blog world it's the male who gets all the attention. Thanks for giving the female some fame time as well. I rather like her combined colors.

I love the Wood Ducks ... the male coloring is so precise and the females have the sweetest face ever. We get them here too, but they are very shy and keep hidden most of the time. The males seem to disappear after the babies are hatched and all we see is Mom and her little string of hatchlings. Great pictures, Theresa ...

PS I did leave a reply to your comment: Dearest Theresa,
This solution works like a charm as it has proven its worth already when we had the Tornado. Yesterday was another heavy rain day with thunderstorms. So glad this is solved now!

Wood ducks - they look hand painted, don't they?

Karen said...

Lovely shots of these birds. They are very pretty.

Jo's World said...

They are so exotic looking, as if they might have been dreamed up by and painted by an Artist. The femmes are just as beautiful in their own neutral way, with the blue and white splashes
and dots on their chests.
Certainly my favorites of the exotics!

Cheers, Tex!

What wonderful photos! I saw the heart on this beauty's bill, but also, on that same picture, just to the left on the duck's breast, is another heart! lol So cool.

Have a lovely day--I do so enjoy your blog. Happy Guest Heart Thursday!

These are so pretty! Finally, the female gets equal opportunity on display. She's really quite pretty on her own, she just pales in comparison to the male. It looks like everyone was trying to get into the act in that photo with the blackbird, can't quite identify the other photo-bomber.

Marie said...

It's so easy to be amazed and awed by the coloring on the male wood duck. He's perfect...like God used His best paintbrushes and oils! But, the female is such a lovely surprise, with such delicate colors....well, I think I like her better. I particularly love the teal and purple under he wing! Gorgeous!
