The Painteds Have Returned

The end of April brought the return of the Painted Buntings for the summer. Here's the first male I saw of the season (with a female Cardinal in the background).

no no no no people. this is a cow bird that Texans had surreptitiously taken in the dark of night and painted it rainbow colors so that they could tell the rest of us that Texas has more than anyone else. you know, sort of a deviation from the Texas saying...everything is bigger in Texas.

Those are incredible! I've never seen anything like it. Today I should be doing a multitude of things, including working on those dolls, but the internet is so fast and my husband is off golfing and the cats are outside in their tent enjoying the sunshine and warm weather (first in a long time), so I'm taking advantage of the internet finally working at a reasonable speed to catch up. So glad I did or I would have missed those bright fun birds!
