Blue Grosbeak

In late August, a male Blue Grosbeak stopped in at the bird bath to have a look around, apparently.

 
 

It's only the second time I've seen a Blue Grosbeak here.

That really is a very big beak - there was a bird in the UK called a Hawfinch which had a huge beak like this - they were able to crack cherry stones!

he/she reminds me of a parrot or little bird that folks keep in those decorative cage. so cute. ( :

i was just thinking if that is a male than the female must be very very dark - almost invisible.

Your blue grosbeak is a handsome dude. Sometimes grosbeaks send out a lone scout. If they find a good place others show up the next day.
